Same problem - no warning - both my beta SM 58 and ordinary SM 58 have gone the same way - both relatively new with ordinary use.

Hi djmalatesta

One could go all superstitious and suggest that it was just bad luck!! It is unusual for one of these industry standard mics to just stop. The most likely cause is the capsule has gone open circuit. you could check this with the 1k range on a multimeter by unscrewing the wind shield and measuring across the . connections to the capsule. If the capsule measures ok, it may be the wiring to the XLR socket at the base of the mic, the switch getting to there. Either way, it can be fixed. Can you meter out the capsule and report back to me what you found?

Try calling Shure at 800-516-2525. They are experts on their products and can help you troubleshoot. It's nearly impossible impossible to diagnose this in a forum.

The possibility to create a problem with the phantom power is out of te question. The phantom power power CAN NOT harm any dynamic mic. Check the connectors and try with another cable.Make all the tests at low volume settings.

Hi i have this system 2X Shure LX4 Wireless MARCAD Receiver + SM58 Microphone can i buy seperate SM58 MICROPHONE to use in this system? thx. mike

The LX series was discontinued by Shure several years ago. They no longer have any new transmitters that would work with your receiver. You could look for a used transmitter, but it would need to be on the exact same frequency as your receiver. That will not be easy to find.

Shure SM58 Ticking Noise

Try turning off the phantom power required to use for the v67. Check connections on the 58 by removing the connector where the xlr connects, and making sure that's looks good. hope this helps.

Receiver for sure beta sm58 only recieves signal within 2"

check all connections, maybe a bad bnc or a crushed cable...if all looks well use a multimeter to check continuity, also check to see if 12 V dc is on the inner conductor. I have seen this prob, it most likely relates to a bad surface mount resistor in the unit.

Trying to open my Shure sm58 beta

About half way up the body you will see a seam. The body with the cartridge and wind screen separates from the bottom half of the body at that juncture. You have to unscrew one from the other. You will see wires that have to be unsoldered. Make note of where they were soldered and do the same thing for both the mike with the dead cartridge and the mike with the good cartridge. Swap straight across and you're done. Hope this helps.
