Question about Kenwood KVT-617DVD Car DVD Player

Kenwood kvt-729 had new clutch fitted,garage removed battery. now head unit has lost all its settings. gone through the menu to recall last settings but cant get it to keep the settings. help please?

    i kinda have the same problem, my av unit will memorise the position of the screen and what source it was playing from when last used but wont remember any of the audio settings so i find myself having to set it all up everytime i turn it on. can anybody help?

For safety, the KVT-696, like other 'head units,' is design so that, properly installed, it will only work while the vehicle is in Park, with the parking brake ON. Makes sense if you think about it. Hey?

Thanks for posting your question, I am here to help!

If you hear sound but no video chances are the screen is indeed the issue now here is what you can do.

  • Check for a replacement screen and put it in yourself.
  • Take the unit to a factory authorized repair center.
  • if there are A/V outputs you can hook up a external screen (most models have this)
The screen is bad because of the following issues:

The back light witch is the white background you see is firing (not a back light issue)
There is a bar running across the screen meaning the LCD is damaged or defective.

Now in rare cases you can go in and check and see if the Ribbon cable is dislodged from the main board, do not shoot the messenger but it happens. Other then that I feel you need a new lcd screen for this unit based on what you told me.

Hideaway brain unit on my kenwood KVT-617 doesn't work


My KVT-617 display unit was stolen out of my dash, but they neglected to snag the items under the rear seat: the "brain" hideaway unit, the HD radio receiver, the 10 disc CD changer, the navigation unit, and the powered subwoofer.
Everything was replaced via the insurance except the sub because the new system was not compatible with the old components. Make me an offer on the items you want!

i have a 717 no brain for sale ought at garage sale and was told all i neded were the wires. i had no clue it needs a brain .

you can get on kenwoods website at http://www.partstore.com/Part/Kenwood/Kenwood/E30668005/New.aspx they are $50 the part # is also there you may search for it and see if someone has it cheaper though.
