Question about Computers & Internet

1 Answer

No DVD picture

My drive is a dvd drive. I am using Intervideo WinDVD v. 4 that came with my computer. It worked prior to my hard drive crashing and the program has been reinstalled on my computer.

Check the Hardware Device Manager and copy the model names for both drives. Then do an Internet Search for each one. Both drives might ROM drives, not burners.
You do need the some burning application software installed to burn disks. try to install Nero BurnLite version 10

you can download it in here http://filehippo.com/search?q=nero

Install from a disc Intervideo WinDVD creator 2 which came originally with HP notebook

The HP version is OEM and checks the system BIOS for HP specific coding before it installs, so you can't use it on an E-Machine.
You can download a free DVD player from Cnet though:

I have movies on dvd, i have a dvd rom in my pc,i go to my computer and click on the dvd to play and it doesnt play, windows media player comes on like its loading but nothinh happens

What operating system do you have? If you have Vista, you may be missing the codec you need. I'd recommend getting Intervideo WinDVD or something similar for watching DVDs. You'll have much more control and a better viewing experience than using Microsoft's crappy player.

maybe you should look first if you have dvd-rw and the dvd that you are using should be dvd recordabl or dvd rewritable.

I am a novice with laptops anyway i have a toshiba tecra just put a dvd in and a caption said, cant play this dvd as you have no dvd decoder. Is this something i have to buy or download?

Yes, You will need to purchase a software DVD Player such as the likes of Cyberlink Power DVD or Intervideo WinDVD,

However, Cyberlink and Intervideo sell Windows Media Player DVD Playback codec packages for $14.95 which will allow you to directly play DVD Movies on your PC.

This is not free since there are licensing involved in many decoder codecs.

My computer wont let me watch movies now. it keeps saying something about my dvd decoder wasnt installed.

if you bought the computer new or the DVD drive new , you whould have got a CD with it , most probably with something like WinDVD or something , if you have the specific CD with DVD software on it install it , as it will enable you to watch DVD's using Windows media player etc..

if you bought the computer second hand etc.. and or cant find the cd's a free solution is to download VLC media player (Download here) the only disadvantage about using this free solution is that you will have to play the DVD's through VLC you wont be able to use windows media player etc. to play DVD's as VLC does not require decoder software to play DVD's

otherwise you can purchase software such as WinDVD and this will enable you to play using your media player of choice.

Thanks!
