Dear Sir,

The easiest way would be by use of a floppy disk or CD-R. Do you have a CD burner attached to the Mac IIci? I am assuming you at least have floppy (unless it died). Do you have a floppy on the HP?

If you can get the files onto floppy or CD (Mac formatted), then you can use MacDrive to mount the floppy or CD on the HP. As an alternative, depending on which version of the Mac OS you are using and what components you have installed, you might be able to insert a Windoze formatted floppy into the Mac and copy files to it...then you would not need MacDrive on the HP. It is tougher to get a Windoze formatted CD-R...I don't recall if any Mac OS burning utilities in the pre-OS X days could burn Windoze CDs or not.

If none of those options work, then a networking option might be possible IF you have an ethernet port on your Mac IIci. If not, then that option is kind of dead.

So, I will wait until you let me know if you have floppy or CD options or a network connection and we can go from there.

Thanks
Good Luck

I recommend using a thumb drive (usb flash drive). They are cheap, very convenient and easy to use. If it is a very large amount of data to be transferred, then I would recommend getting an external hard drive that plugs into your usb.

SOURCE: transfer files

If both computers have a CD or DVD burner/drive, you can put them on CDs or DVDs. If not, and they both have USB drives, you can use a flash drive or portable USB hard drive to move the files.

you need to reinstall the programs, not just transfer them. Using a web browser will not be a problem as the web age remains the same, but using a mail program, you need to change the internal settings to what they were before.

How to download my file from my old computer

The simplest way to transfer files from your old to your new computer is by using USB flash drives. Just save your files from the old computer onto the flash drive then plug this USB drive in to the new computer and save the files there. If you have large files, you can also use an external hard drive to copy and transfer files.

I have a hp a610n and i had the hard drive replaced and now im tring to update the drivers and i am unable to do so.

Hello,

I am not sure how the hard drive was replaced but you should be able to go to HP support, enter your pc model and download the drivers for your system from there. That's the easy way. You can also transfer directly from the old hdd to the new one. (assuming the old one still function) This can be time consuming and if you have any corriupt files, they will be transfered to the new drive as well.

Good Luck

Need to know how to transfer programs and files from old to new PC

There are three sets of items that you need to transfer.
It would be best to use an external USB drive and keep the data on the drive as a backup.

1. Settings (Internet favorites, desktop settings, cookies, address book, etc.)
2. Data (My Documents, and multimedia content)
3. Programs

It would be easy if the old computer was also a Dell; however, you can't simply "copy" to the new computer.

#1. Settings: There is a built-in utility called "Files and Settings Transfer Wizard". [Start] [All Programs] [Accessories] [System Tools] [Files and Settings Transfer Wizard]

#2. The transfer wizard has an option to copy "settings only", "Data Only", Settings and Data". Transfer only the settings and then transfer the data. It will go much smoother.

#3. Some programs are already on your new computer; however, unless the old computer was also a Dell, you will have to re-install most or all of your programs like MS Office, Printers, Scanners, Camera and Video applications, etc.

If you need more detail, please post a comment... Thanks .

Copy files from old computer and transfer to new computer

Although Vista comes with an Easy File Transfer Wizard it is not compatible with Windows 98.

You will need a CD burning program such as Nero Burning Suite or Creative CD Writer or here is a link to a FREE one.
