Printer part is malfunctioning

I see the top roller (it's where the paper comes out) is malfunctioning.

It doesn't roll anymore. I looked the gears on the left side of the printer & fuser, it seems loosely connected which I think is the cause.

My problem is I don't know how to dismantle the printer to replace the gears inside especially on the top roller.

Except for the fuser assembly, I know how to dismantle it to replace its parts.

Pls help...... :(

Here's a link to the complete service manual. The 2400 series isn't known to have problems with output gear problems. Most of the time the problem is with the geartrain itself. Below the service manual link and there is another link that addresses geartrain issues. The gears they are showing and discussing are also known to cause top end (exit) jamming. The article walks you through the gear replacements.

Hope that helps you. If so hit me with a FIXYA.

Paper jam. we keep getting a paper jam error. but there is no paper jamed in it all. it only does it in tray 2 some of the time(about once a week) the only way i can get it too work is by unpluging the...

Pass thru sensor and flag assembly:
The tray 2 option system board did not detect a piece of paper
actuating the pass thru sensor. Remove any jammed sheets of paper
from the printer and check the pass thru sensor and flag for proper
operation by running the appropriate Tray Sensor Test from the
diagnostics menu. If the test fails, check the sensor for correct
installation and the flag for proper operation. Also check the sensor
cable to make sure it is correctly connected to the option system
board. If incorrect, replace the tray 2 option pass thru sensor
assembly.

Check these parts for signs of broken or damaged parts,
contamination on the drive rollers or wear plate and wear or damage
to the drive shaft bearings. Check the drive roll assembly and skewed
backup roller for wear, slick spots, material buildup, and oil or grease
on the rollers. Also check for proper operation of the paper aligning
assembly. Repair or replace parts as necessary.

HP 870Cse feeder/roller is dead

Take a very small amount of Goo Gone on a paper towel and roll it over the rollers. You can press and hold the top button to get the rollers moving. This will revitalize the rubber rollers. My printer is over ten years old and I do this about every two years and never get a misfeed.

241.10 paper jam

Um I don't know what the other guy is saying since your paper jam has nothing to do with where he is telling to look...

From the service manual:

Error 241 subcode 10:
Page was not properly picked from tray 1.

Possible Causes:
Failure to feed possible causes include:
• Edge locking
• Worn or contaminated pick tires
• Overfilling of tray past the fill line.

Action:

Fan media.
Turn media over.
Reduce amount of media loaded in tray 1.
Replace pick tires.*

To replace pick tires:

Integrated tray autocompensator pick roll assembly removal

1. Remove the integrated tray, and look underneath the printer for the autocompensator arm. Pull the arm
down.

2. Press on the end of the tab (A) and pull the pick roll off the arm. Repeat this step for the pick roll on the other side. Next, gently release the autocompensator arm. Discard the used pick rolls.

Installation
1. Remove the new pick rolls from their packaging.
2. Pull the autocompensator arm down. Locate the recessed area on the pick roll, and align it with the tab on the arm. There are two arrows on each pick roll. Make sure the bottom arrow faces you as you align the recessed area with the tab.

3. Push the pick roll onto the arm with the tab aligned. Repeat this step on the other side to install the other pick roll.

HP Laserjet 4100 series , paper jam output tray.( on top of the printer ). The roller under the topcover is turning the wrong way. The paper can't get out of the printer, and jams between the upper roller...

Hi F_bulsara,
First thing to try is to flip the paper over in the input tray. There are 2 sides to paper. One side may curl a bit too much due to heat of the fuser and get caught near the output rollers.

Unless the Output Assembly was assembled wrong, it is impossible for the rollers to turn the wrong way. The gear in the fuser drives the output assembly. The top rollers are rolling out.
If the rollers are not rolling, then one of the gears must be broken or missing. The output rolllers might need cleaning.

Next check the fuser unit. Disconnect power to printer and turn printer round. Remove the back output tray and the two small covers (left and right). Undo the 2 screws that hold the fuser in place. Pull the fuser out. Check the gears on side of the fuser. A broken gear in the fuser could cause this problem.

Lexmarkx73 Won't feed paper through while printing

1. Turn the printer off and open the access cover.
2. Look for any obstructions in the paper path and remove them if necessary. (It is possible to move the carrier assembly with the power off.)
3. Turn the printer on, load some paper, and press the Form Feed button. (On the X83, press the Select button.)
4. Watch the paper as it feeds through and try to determine where the jam is occurring.
5. Check to see if all the rollers are turning.

If all the rollers are turning, there may be something in the feed path that you can't see. Go to step 6.
If not, there is probably a feed motor or a gear problem and the printer may require service.
6. If the paper is jamming under the carrier assembly, you may be able to fix it using the manual feed slot.
7. Turn the printer off.
8. Take a #10 envelope and feed it through the left side of the manual feed slot until it comes right through the printer to the back of the exit rollers.
9. Move it up and down first, and then slowly move it over to the right side. If something is stuck under the black guide plate, this may work it loose.

I searched this online, and have found the following instructions:

1) Set the power switch to OFF
2) Remove the printer cover
3) Remove the ink roller by turning it counterclockwise and pulling it upward.
4) Install the correct color new ink roller and press it in the correct position. Make sure that the ink roller is securely in place.
5) Put back the printer cover.

Printer

If it is not pushing the paper out of the tray, you should first try taking a soapy cleaner like fantastic or formula 109 and clean the feed rollers and see if that helps.
The paper tray also lifts up and down to feed the paper so the gear that drives the tray up and down may be broken.
Slen the rolls first. If that doesn;t last long. Say in a day or two it starts misfeeding again, the rollers will need to be replaced.

Paper feed

If the print-out is an 'alien-like' one, the problem is on the sensor of the printer. The sensor is on the opposite side of the gears. Under the black cover.
