Go to the sound mixer(double click on speaker mark on the task bar). and then click on option, and then properties.you can see dialog box with recording and playback settings.
first mark on playback , and check activate the mic on that, if not put the tick on selection box.
then mark on recording. check the mic activation same as that. then click ok. you can see recording mixer.
OK now check have an advance controller button near the mic controller . if not click on option, and check have a tick with the advance controller. if not put the tick in frount of addvance controller. now already you in recording mixer. now you can see that button.
after that, click on "select" check box with the mic and increase the level to top. then click on "advance" controller, and put the tick on mic 1 boost. then close all windows and check the mic,
using via some recording software (like as windows sound recorder ), or activate the mic for working with speakers via put the tick on the mic tab on playback mixer. ( when that can hear like some siren noise , pull down the mic level to control that)

I suggest you go into control panel and device manager and see if your internal mic is listed there. If it is right click on it and see if it is selected as your default mic. I believe it may be un-selected. If that doesn't work I would just use the external mic with Skype as the internal mics with most laptops aren't that good anyway.

The fact that your internal mic works and then goes out, is more likelly a drivers problem.
I would run your device manager with all external devices disconnected and look for flags.
If you have a device problem, it will show up here.
Remove and flags and allow your operating system to reload drivers after a reboot.
If this has not fixed your problem, try to boot into safe mode and check your internal sound devices their. Sounds like a driver conflect.
Hope this has helped,

Hi, Meens here In my Acer Aspire 5920 Vista home preimum getting weird sound frm inbuild microphone after swtich on n the sounds stops after plugging headfons :(

The usual cause of microphone noise is caused by audio settings where the microphone gain may be turned up to high causing it to pick up noise from the computer or built in speakes. This can cause noise ranging from an odd hum to a high pitched squeal.

Check your sound setting first

Acer Aspire internal mic won't work.

You need to check the record settings and make sure the mic is not muted or turned down to low. Click START, CONTROL PANEL, then SOUND icon. Click the AUDIO tab up top. Make sure that your sound card is selected in the drop down menu under Sound Recording. Now click VOLUME tab. A new window will open up. Click OPTIONS then PROPERTIES. Make sure you have a check by the MIC and click OK. In the Recording Control window, turn the level up for Microphone and make sure it is not muted. Let me know what happens.
