My pepsi machine is not keeping the beverages cold, i was going to recharge it and put new freon in it. My question is, can i use a different rated freon than the one recommend with the machine?
Dixie-Narco Inc.
Model: DNCB 320/184-8
Serial: 0674-2549CG
The freon i would be using is the newer version of what it takes now. I forgot what it took, but that is what an HVAC told me.

You will definitely need a professionals help here because if the freon/refrigerant has leaked out then there is a leak that needs to be found and repaired. Then the system must be dried completely before being recharged and this takes special tools and knowledge. Definitely a techs job. good luck!
not sure why you would need a new compressor unless it actually has a freon leak on one of the seams during the building process. This is extremely rare. I've only seen one in over 25 years. Some manufacturers have 5 year warrenty on the compressor but do not cover the labor and freon and such to replace the compressor. Either one of the repair guys should have checked into this for you as part of their service. Try contacting Beverage Air and give them your model and serial numbers to see if you still have a warranty on your unit. It's worth a shot.
Now, in order for you to need freon added, it has to have a leak somewhere in the system. It is a sealed system and should never need freon added unless it either has a leak or someone put the improper amount in the system. I would try to find a repair man that has been recommended to you and has good ratings. Check better business outfits or the net.
Let me know if there is anything else I can do for you.
check the thermostat for proper setting, evap could be frozen up, the condenser fan could not be running, unit could be low on freon. start check some items and let me know.
If unit is running constantly, and not nearly as cold as it used to be, most likely a freon leak. Possibly a partially frozen over evap too. If evap is mostly clear except for about 5% of it, most probably a freon leak. Changing controls will probably not fix anything. Need to look into this a little deeper.
Beverage air used R134a almost exclusively on refrigerators. The process is similiar to ac systems. You should weigh the charge in as per the data plate. Be precise as over or under charge can dramitically affect the performance of the unit. Hope this helps
The unit is probably low on gas again. If it lasts a month the leak may be difficult to find, as it may be a small leak. Those units don't hold a lot of gas. Have someone do a nitrogen leak check and fix the leak. If no leak is found, have them install a UV dye to help find the leak. :)
These units are not designed to run in temps much lower than 50 degrees. They have no winter controls and the freon pressures will take a nose dive when running in a cold ambient condition. The unit will not run well in a cold environment, compressor damage may result. :(
