Nikon F3 film counter will not reset

You need to open the right side top cover to repair this. The "button" is not a reset - the counter is activated by the pressure of the film door on the "button" - it holds a shaft with a 'slice of pie' cutout on it against the gearing on the bottom of the counter disk. When you open the film door, the spring on the "button" moves it away from the counter disk, and a circular spring under the counter disk makes it return to '0'.

This problem is usually caused by impact to the top cover, causing the disk not to turn freely, or spillage, usually of a 'sugar' drink. It it is spillage, you can put some Windex on a clean toothbrush and clean around the advance lever and hope it gets far enough inside to dissolve the stickiness. If you have canned air you can spray a little around the advance lever to dry it out. Take out the batteries first, and leave them out for an hour or so to make sure the Windex has completely evaporated. Do not spray the Windex directly on the camera!

C v joint in way of putting spindle in after changing ball joints

If you cant slide the spindle back in place because cv joint is in the way , you dont have your axle pushed in far enough, while you are pushing on axle ,slightly
spin it and you will feel a bumping sensation, that is the splines in the differential and when they line up the axle will slide in place and then you can bolt the spindle on...Hope I helped

Marantz CP430 fault

Hello,

I have had the exact same problem with a CP430, Whether in Play Rewind or Fast Forward, after a short duration the tape stops. After a lot of Looking & thinking, I noticed that a few seconds prior to the tape stopping, the tape counter stops. (If you dismantle this unit be sure to work in an orgainsed fashion,& you will need some tiny Phillips head screwdrivers too) If your not confident then dont proceed.

The tape counter is driven by a belt, & on the spindle that drives the counter is a magnetic wheel, that runs past a sensor on a PCB.

I didn't have a replacement belt, so dismantled the unit, & chemically cleaned the Belt (cellulose thinners), until no more 'black' came off, in order to eliminate the possibility of tape slip, I also used a stiff toothbrush, to clean the plastic gears that drive the counter, as any resistance, will cause the belt to slip. I think the reset button had also been pushed hard, & bent the mechanism slightly, as it had a tight spot, so i adjusted the spindle, & finally lunricated the Counter gears (Not the Spindle & pulley, as its too close to the belt to introduce lubricant). Upon reassembly, The problem seems solved, the unit now plays records Rewinds etc, without any issues.

Its a tiny drive belt, & any resistance in the drive train, (dust / fluff / as tiny grit even) is enough to cause the belt to slip, & stop the counter which in turn stops the tape.

I hope this helps.

Thankyou

Film advance

halbert28,
a slipping take-up spool is not an easy solution to fix, there is a couple things that you can do that might help.
1- after the film is loaded and # 1 on the counter rotate the re-wind knob to make the film tight.
2- gently pull up on the pressure plate inside film door to increase pressure on the film. other than that, the film take up mech. must be repaired.

Dewalt 708 sliding compound mitre saw

Probably a worn bearing. The only other thing that I have seen cause this is a bent spindle. This would usually occour if the machine has had an impact or if the blade has been suddenly jammed against a nail or something in the work that has caused it to jam and/or jump up.
A good indicator for bearing wear is to see how much play is in the blade in an up/down and side to side movement (unplug saw, safety first).
To check spindle, remove blade and run machine without the flanges etc on. Rest a scredriver gently on the shaft as it spins and see if you notice any (uniform) vibration.

If the rt guide arm is not moving fully forward, just put a couple of drops of white grease on the mechanism.

The arm with the felt pad is the autu-head cleaner pad. after a year or 2 of use, it will be more a menace than a good useful cleaner, as it will add the accumulated dirt on to the head, instead of cleaning. Just remove it.

In the lid should be a mgnetic plate that holds the disc to the motor spindle (much like slight pressure would). Inspect it to make sure it's free moving and seating all the way when the lid is closed. I had one unit where the spindle on the motor shaft had slid down slightly causing the magnetic plate to not seat down all the way. Also, if the magnetic plate is removable, try placing it on the disc with the lid open and bypassed and see what happens.

Hope that helps...

Frame counter-can't shoot

Having film in the camera makes no difference for the frame counter to work on this model. The counter is activated by a small tab that protrudes from the top edge of the film door near the hinge.

Locate the area on the camera where that tab meets in the channel along the top of the film compartment. There is a small opening for the lever that engages the drive gear for the counter. The opening may have debris (foam) or the tab may be broken. If neither of these is the case, the film door may be bent slightly and is not pushing the lever in far enough.

It is important for the counter to work on the FG since the metering is not active until the counter reaches '1'. (switch) It blinks 60 &125 in the display otherwise
