Ge wall unit cools and then stops

Is this worth calling a repair person for? the unit is 5 years old with very minimal use. i live in wisconsin and we have cold winters. could the below zero weather have ruined the unit? is it best to have it repaired or replaced. this is a 13,000 unit.

i paid $600 for this unit and probably used the ac for 10 days each summer for the last 4 years. it kills me to think i am going to lose all of that money and still have to replace it. is there a better brand than GE to replace it with?

Weather below 50 deg F can harm airconditioners if you run them. If the unit is turned off, then the weather can get as cold as it wants to and not damage the unit. Also 99.999% of the time repair costs on wall units surpass the cost of replacing the unit. This is even accounting for the fact that you will have to pay $25 to $50 to get rid of the old a/c. 5 yrs isn't that bad for a wall shaker anymore. Suggest looking for a new unit.

Unfortunately, nobody really puts alot of effort into building the window and wall units. A major portion of the expense in repairs is that the mfr does not take the time or effort to put in standard service accesses when building the unit. Installing these accesses once the system has been sealed and pressurizes is difficult and costly. I would probably look for a "cheap" unit as the life expectancy isn't that great. As far as recomending a specific brand over another, I don't really feel strongly enough about any one brand to do so.

Neff fridge/freezer has stopped cooling

pull the unit from the wall, remove the bottom back panel , see if the small fan is working ,if the fan is , there's probally alot of dust back there, unplug the fridg. and vacuum the area real good, use a flash light to make sure you get it all, if the fan is not working and the compressor is running the fan is the problem ,the fan keeps the compressor and coils cool so the freon can cool down so the unit works like it should,if the freon is hot ,the air the fridg.will be blowing will be hot. this should fix your problem, and YES its worth fixing.alittle p.m.saves alot of $$$$$$$$$

The room is 70 degrees f but the coils still ice up. What is the problem?

Most of the time, the most common reason is a dirty or clogged air intake filter. Turn the Master ON/Off Switch to OFF and unplug the unit from the wall outlet. Put some old towels under the unit and allow it to thaw completely, before removing the filter for cleaning. Also, if you can access the cooling coils, wiping them down with warm water and a mild detergent (dish washing liquid is fine) rinse and dry completely. A light coating of WD40 after they're dry helps too.

Worse case scenario is that the compressor is low on refrigerant gas and needs recharging. Or the defrost sensor has failed and needs to be replaced.

Depending on the age of the unit, will determine if it's worth repairing. If it's over 5 years old, get a new one. Less than 5 years old, it's worth considering to have it repaired. Contact Goldstar Tech Service (800) 243-0000 for an idea on the cost of repair.

Hope this helps you troubleshoot and solve the problem. Please let me know. Thanks.

Many times a freezer and/or refrigerator do not work right because of a dirty condenser coil...there are also many other things that can go wrong.

Hi! Do you notice any bubbles from the units wall? If there is then the problem will be internal. Assuming the motor is working but the cause will be inside the walling. If you call for repair guys they will ask you that it will be tested but you have to pay the diagnostic price knowing that its unrepairable. I suggest that going for a new one will be greater. Hope this helps and have a good one!

HI, no need to replace the unit at this time. this is a Open or shorted oven temperature sensor (RTD).

Check sensor harness and harness connection between oven sensor and oven control. Replace oven temperature sensor (RTD) if wiring is ok.
