Directly to the tv, unless you have a VERY old tv, it should hook up to either the back or the front of the tv through the 3 colors (white/red(audio) yellow(video)

What channel does my tv need to be on? and what button do i press on my dish network remote to get me to the wii screen

Usually it depends on how you connected to the TV/satellite box- for instance, I have mine set on channel AUX 1 since I have connected my Wii to the TV using the component cables (the red yellow and white cables) to the port AUX 1. If you've hooked it to the Dish box, then it would be whichever accessory you connected is the channel to select in the dish system, but on the channel that your dish is hooked up (it's situational!)

Won't to hookup a wii to a cable box and tv

Generally you do not need to hook the wii up to a cable box, simply plug the Yellow, Red, and White cables into the same colored plugs on the back of the tv. If this is not the problem please be more specific.

I just hooked my wii & all we get is black & white

I had the same problem. Instead of going directly into the TV, I tried plugging the component cable into the auxiliary jack in my digital cable box and that seemed to fix it. Works great now.

I have not had to much success connecting anything through a cable or satellite box. Most of those devices are only setup for output. I suggest connecting directly to the TV.

I'm a bit frustrated. Got a Wii for Christmas. We have it hooked up through the vcr at the moment (via the packaged composite cables). However, we would prefer to hook it up directly to the tv via...

If you are connecting it directly to the tv then make sure you are using the right cable. There should be a set of yellow, white, and red. Then there is the one with blue and green on it. If you are using the composite then you don't use the yellow. Some people make the mistake of plugging in the yellow for the video. If you have all the colors matched up then you should take the cable back and get another one to see if it is the cable. Also, usually there is a switch on the little box on the cables. Make sure they are switched to composite.

TV went to black and white when hooking up the wii

You probably don't have something hooked up right or connected all the way. If you are using component video cables, make sure that all of the different plugs are plugged into the matching socket on your TV. Also, make sure you have your TV on the right channel (3 or 4) if that's how you have it setup.
Otherwise, you will want to look at the input settings on your TV and make sure you are receiving the correct input, and if you have your Wii plugged into a VCR instead of directly to your TV, try hooking it up directly to see if it works.
If that doesn't work, try using a different TV - especially if it's a TV you know works in color with a Wii. If it is still in black and white, you might need to take it back to the store and exchange it for a new one.
