Remove the USB cable into the printer and leave the printer on. Remove all the cartridges. Close the cartridge door and wait for the INSERT INK MESSAGE to appear. Disconnect the power cable and from the power source supply. Now open again the printer door. Move the carriage using your hand from the original position to the other side of the printer and then move it back to original position. Wait for couple of minutes Reconnect power cord and turn on the printer. Return all the ink cartridges and close the door. Wait for the calibration process. Print the test page to check if it working. Reconnect the USB cable and try to print again.

hello, some of the time the color ink cartridge can cause the problem, especially if its a refilled ink, but at same time, i do know some of the new inks right out of the box will fail. so try with a new color cartridge first.
it may be the power supply itself! have any of you tried using a different power cord? the problem may not be in the printer but in the cord itself. i have 2 hp 6310's that were giving me the 'reset power' error. when i changed the POWER CORD, that error message went away and it went into the insert cartridges mode. good luck.

I contacted HP customer service and was given a solution that worked for this precise problem: "Using a clean, dry lint-free cloth (a coffee filter works well), wipe the cartridge contacts, from the top to the bottom. The contact area of the cartridge should be rubbed briskly to remove the waxy lubricant material from the gold contacts. The contacts inside the printer may also require cleaning. Using a clearn, dry, lint-free cloth, gently wipe the contacts, from the top to the bottom."
This worked for me. At least immediately. I hope it doesn't happen again.
