You must only run any device such as the GPS with the factory rated cable-adabtor. The cable-adabtor has a voltage and current regulated supply built in.

Most of these devices work on 5 Volts. Some work on 3 Volts. The voltage has to be very well regulated and filtered.

Inside of the GPS there is an inverter board that has some electronics on it that converts the voltage coming in, to proper sub voltages to run the various circuits.

What you did was most likely damage the input inverter board. Your unit will have to be sent back to the manufacture to have this board replaced. It also possible that other areas of the GPS were also damaged. The service tech at the manufacture has the proper test and diagnostics equipment to determine the parts that have to be changed.

As like all electronic products, if the damage was caused by any means other than normal use and connections, the warrany will not be covered.

I cut my stock stereo harness and want to hook up a aftermarket CD player but I can't get any power

Power comes from 2 spots. Usually the orange wire(B+) goes to memory. You have to splice into an ignition on wire to power the radio. I splice from the A/C controller.

There should be 2 rubber blocks in the wire harness down by the starter. These are fusible links and one kills power to the truck, the other kills power to the engine. Cut them out and splice the wires back together, one at a time of course. Old age will do them in on occasion, moisture gets in there. Use some "heat shrink tube" to cover the splice. It works much better than tape. Hope this helps.

Our headlights and tail lights are stuck on and van will not start, we were changing the stereo and the alarm beeped like it was unlocking. what could be wrong with it

Are your headlights and tail lights hooked into your alarm system (the flash when arming and disarming). You may have used a wire that was part of the alarm system. Does your alarm system kill the ignition so the van cannot be started? Could have done something to destroy the alarm system.
Might want to start by going backwards. Take the stereo out and putting any wiring back to the way it was before until things go back to normal. If that does not work then take the alarm out and repair any wires that have been cut and spliced for it.

My Sony MHC-EC55 Mini Hi-Fi Component System stereo wont work. i turned it on then it shut off the red light started blinking standby button.. i unplugged it then plugged it back in turned it on ..then it...

This usually means an overload. On my daughter's system it was because she had extended the speaker wire and where she has spliced the wires the two sides were touching. Try un-hooking your speakers and turn on the system. If it works without shutting off then you can reconnect the wires one speaker at a time. Maybe you have a short in the wire or speakers.

What wire can I splice into on the factory stereo of a 2004 ford explorer to power a remote on wire for a aftermarket amp?

Use a test light and tap into the acc power wire, this is the wire with power when the key is on , then when key is off the power is off this way the amp turns on and off with the key, and it wont kill your battery when ignition is off, just use test light to test wires. hope this helps, note the wire is black and pink just test to make sure.

How to hook up the pioneer stereo to wire harness?

Not real clear on question, but you can buy a direct fit wire harness and the wires are color coded so you don't have to cut and splice your wires on your factory harness. The harness hooks to your factory plug and you wire it to your pioneer stereo wires. Harness is about 7.99 up at most stores.

First you need to UN DO your first hook up. Put it back the way it was before you splice. You have evendently spliced the wrong wires. Without schematics colors and stripe won't mean anything.

Be thankful you haven't damaged anything or burn something out in your control module.

You need to find the schematic wiring for the radio.

Or if you have a taple player in the radio, by the tape adapter for CD player. Until you can find out what wires PRE AMP the tape player then you can splice.

06 cobalt stock system hook up

I cant really assist in this matter but I can let you know that I have a system in my 2006 Chevy Cobalt and that I have an aftermarket cd player installed. I had to pay $130 for a special adapter for it to be wired into the system because GM's newest idea of installing the stereo and airbags on the same wire scheme, is kind of a dumb idea.
