SONY KDSR-60XBR2 fleshtone green & yellow

Hey Guys. I have a Sony 60XBR2 SXRD tv. I had the light engine replaced twice and the color HDMI board replaced. The problem is some times the picture takes on a green haze in particular with human fleshtones. Sometimes in subjects faces & arms You will see Yellow or green.

When I 1st got the TV it didn't do this. The flesh tones were competely normal. I have adjusted the green gain & green bias in the advanced settings menu. It helps, but it's frustrating because the issue is very sometimish. Every time I call Sony to send out a tech they say nothing is wrong with the TV. There are also alot of times the picture looks completely normal. If it's not the light engine, is there something electronically adjustable in the service menu or is it the screen that could be causing the problem? Where the TV sits in My livingroom, it's exposed to direct sunlight on the screen. Any help with this would be appreciated

Thanks

Shaun

Are the LCD's located in the optical light engine? If the screen is an issue? can it be replaced. I am trying to get to the root of this sometimish problem.

Yes, direct sunlight could have an effect as the ionised particles in the light could be a factor .. Try facing the Tv away from direct sunlight and see if that helps..If not, then its most likely an optical engine issue.

You will definitely need Sony to come and take a look at this if facing the TV away from direct sunlight does not work. Could be an issue with the Optical Block, which may need replacing again, as the ones that were replaced originally, may have also been faulty..

The screen does not seem to be an issue. If it were, then you would see the greenish tinge at the same place all the time.

In addition it is better to put the tv off to the sunlight, sun rays may affect the picture quality and can possibly damaged the liquid crystal display. so try to put any protectve shades from the sun rays if you there was no more position available.

Sony tv kds-r60xbr1 has yellow tint

Sorry to hear this, but your optical block has failed. Sony replaced a ton of these under warranty and then extended the warranty on these SXRD sets so they could replace many more. They even replaced the sets with LCD sets after a class action law suite. This was a "black eye" for Sony TVs and they stopped making the SXRD sets. Your set is vintage 2006 and there is no longer a warranty. You could replace the optical block with a rebuilt one, but the cost would be about the same as getting a new 60" LCD. I would suggest you do the latter.

DEVOLPING YELLOW LINE ON SCREEN

The yellowing of Sony’s KDF-60WF655 rear projection is a problem with the SXRD optical engine. This turned out to be a big problem on many of the SXRD TV's. Sony actually had a class action lawsuit that covered the optical engine for 5 years. My unit was replaced in June of last year (2009) about 1 month before the coverage ended. My unit had a bad yellow streak on the right hand side. Sony no longer covers the cost of replacement, as the class action suit has now expired. Sorry for the bad news. Its not clear if a new optical engine will suffer the same fate after a few years. Sony’s rear projection TV's are amazing and the picture rivals many of today’s LCD's and Plasma's. Any authorized Sony Tv repair shop will no exactly your problem and will be able to give you a fixed price to repair.
Hope this helps
