It is a laptop. most likely the power and the data cable are 1 and the same for the hard drive. have you tried to change the ram back?? if not do that first and make sure it isn't bad ram. if you do put it back and it works then it is incompatible ram. if you had to remove the hard drive to change the ram then go back in and make sure the hard drive cable is plugged in good at both ends (mother board and hard drive)

You have to modify your computer setup by telling it about the new RAM. Have you done that?

I want to replace my Hard disk but my memory RAM is only 512mb & cache memory is 1mb so can i replace my hard disk by 500gb hard disk?

You can upgrade your Hard disk to 500GB even if you have 51MB RAM and 1MB cache. They are independent.
One thing you should check is the Hard drive interface: SATA (more common) or PATA. Does your board support SATA or PATA?
Second is your power supply offers SATA power connector? If not you should get an adapter to power up your HDD.

chek the SMPS output voltages
if it is low replace it
remove RAM, clean RAM by using a rubber at RAM contacts, replace RAM
disconnect the hard disk and switch on computer, if it has display, problem is due to hard disk or smps

I have a maxtor 250GB black usb 2.0 hard drive that is no longer recognised by my PC. The usb port works OK with other USB appliances. Its not a high speed 2.0 port but thats not been a problem in the...

Try connecting this drive to another PC/laptop. If the hard disk does not get recognised, you may have to seek help from Maxtor / authorised service personnel to diagonse the issue with the hard drive. Given that there is circuitry in between the actual physical disk and its USB port connector, chances are that the data on the hard disk would be safe and the intermediate circuitry may have suffered a brown-out. Good luck!

IBM Netvista 6059 - Can't upgrade to windows XP

Right well XP Pro really MUST be formatted with NTFS only... I suggest you get a third party partitioning program like Partition magic and completely remove the partition & redo it all again & this time Format NTFS. Or if ya have a WIN98 boot disk, and ya can use FDISK, Delete ALL partitions, and remake them again, using all the disk space, then format as NTFS, then proceed as below Then using your windows XP PRO setup Disk, start the install ...then when asked about where you want the install located, select C & REFORMAT it AGAIN with the windows setup using again NTFS file system... this should finish & then the Install should "see" your entire hard drive and format it accordingly and then when finished you can proceede to install XP.
