Another way, is to remove the printhead/ink cartridge, dab some water on a paper towel. Place the print head on the wet paper towel, if ink comes out, the print head is good.
the cleaning aspect, usually either wipes the print head or presses the print head into a sponge to suction out ink.
It helps to know the make and model number of the printer.
IF its an Epson, trash it!

Your printer should have a self-clean function. Usually this occurs every time you put in a new cartridge. Read the manual. You usually have a feature that through the software provided you can request a manual cleaning.

I have an Epson Photo 1800 printer with a broken ink jet. Is the repair worth the cost or is it time to trash the printer?

Inkjet printers need to be used frequently to prevent inkdrying out in the print head nozzles.
If the print head cleaning maintenance routine does not clear the blockages, then print head needs replacing, but it may be expensive.
It may be more cost effective to buy a later model and better printer thanreplace the print head.

Some of the colours are missing from my printing

In all likelihood your ink is running out. If your print monitor reports that you still have ink remaining in the colors you are missing, the issue is probably just a clogged print head. To clean your print heads, first insure you have paper loaded into the feed tray on top, press the "Menu" button on the face of your printer then press the down arrow until you see "Clean Cartridge". Select "Clean Cartridge" and wait for the cleaning cycle to complete. If the colors are still missing after running the cleaning cycle 3 times, you will need to replace your color cartridge. Low cost replacements can be found using a web search or visiting your local office supply store.

Where can I find a replacement printhead for my Canon Pixma ip5200? Local office supply stores have all cartridges but no printheads. Office Boy Richmond, VA

You can try ebay or Canon them selves, the trouble is they cost about £50, as much a new printer.

Alternatively you could try cleaning the head, its probably only blocked with dry ink. But not using the printer software, you'll have to get hold of a printer head cleaning kit, I've seen them on ebay you'll probably also get them from ink suppliers.

I have problem with print-head for PGBK-5. On the test-print it does not appear as the pattern suppose to be (from the top) PGBK, C, C, M, M, Y, and BK. The pattern always appear C,C,M,M,Y and BK. I used...

if the clogging is worst then the deep head cleaning wont help.the head will need to be cleaned up manually and the waste ink pad in the printer should be cleaned too. this is covered normally in printer servicing.give special instructions to clean the head properly while you hand over the printer for servicing to any local tech. head cleaning and servicing will solve the issue
This will help. Thanks, please keep updated. please do rate the solution positively .thank you for using fixya

Heads will not clean, done everything Epson Stylus Pro4800 Manual says it has cost me a fortune in ink and waste tank. Is there an easy way to clean heads?

Usually the simple way to clean old ink from heads is to get a container of alcohol from the drug store and either using a Q-tip or paper towel soaked - wipe the print surface of the head to remove the old ink, then run the head clean utility once after. If you cannot reach the head surface, move the print head to change ink position, unplug the printer and fold and lay the paper towel soaked in alcohol under the head and manually move the head back and forth by hand to clean it. You may need several sheets of towel and alcohol to do this. Fold the paper thick enough so it will touch the head surface to clean.

Canon MP500 Printer head error

Hello,

Print heads for nearly all printers are rated at 2 years. You may also need to clean the tube from the resevoir at the ink supply to the cartridge and clean the working resevoir on the cartridge as well. If you are up to this challenge there is a how-to at your manufacturer's web site or you can have a tech do it. Most people, when they realize how inky you will be getting choose to have a tech do this.

It is best to use 100% denatured alcohol, from your hardware store, to clean these parts and tubing. But, you must take precautions.

DO NOT USE DENATURED ALCOHOL UNLESS YOU READ AND FOLLOW THE DIRECTIONS ON THE BACK OF THE CAN.

I'm not kidding about the precautions. I do all this stuff outside when there is a breeze in the air and then I stay up wind of my work.

If you have any questions whatsoever just feel free to comment back to me.

Regards,
Worldvet

Won't print(after changing cartridges

blank pages and bad print are not the same problem. Regarding costly ink, a epson printer tech told me once that the secrete to cleaning a bad print head was to run deep clean 7 times in a row and then a head test and it has worked for me several times on other printers (not an expert here, just personal experience).

Additional note, I have seen both cleaning chemicals and cleaning cartridges on the web, example, searching google for one for my printer I would search for cc-bci-6c which is for a canon cyan cleaning cartridge. Don't know if they work but in case it helps.. good luck.
