A Disk Read Error Occured

Hi,

My PC randomly restarted a few days ago and came up with the message 'A disc read error occured' Press Ctl Alt Delete to restart' When I do press them I return to the same screen! I have tried pressing F8 bit have no real idea what to do when I get to that screen, i'm not too fussed if it has died a death, if this is the case though, is there any way that I can still get info off the hardrive - itunes music - as typically on the same day my ipod has stopped working!!

Any help appreciated

this problem often is fatal.. you could either try changing the IDE cable or the hardisk itself.. if you have spares.. but IDE type is not manufactured already..

I have a optilex 170l dell computer i replaced the hard disk and now i gives me a disk read error occured press ctrl+alt+del to restart

Press ctrl+alt+del to restart is just an instruction. Did you do it?
What happened? Was it read? Tell us more. Send your e-mail for
us to give you our feedback.
By the way, assuming that it did not work, Your hard disk must be
configured to your PC, by running a software driver for your new hard
disk. You can download it from the internet by running search " hard
disk driver". Just specify the brand.

A disk read error occurred press ctl-alt-del to restart goes back 2 same scrn

Sounds like the hard drive has errors.
Boot to a windows XP cd.
Repair using the windows console.
at the repair console type:

chkdsk /R (hit enter)

Let that run, it takes a long time.
If it's able to repair the drive enough for operation it will.

If it cannot you will be forced to replace the hard drive.

PC disc read error with my hard drive

this is a sign that either you hard drive is about to fail, or there is a corrupt sector on it. Next time you boot up the pc go to my computer, right click and explore, then right click on the 'C' drive and select properties, then at the tools tab at the top of the window select error checking and click check now. The pc will probably need to restart to do the check. Back up any important docs as it may be aboit to fail.
