Question about Whirlpool Ultimate Care II LSQ9549L Top Load Washer
Washer filled normally and when it started the wash cycle it made a very loud grinding sound. I shut it down immediately. I used the spin cycle to empty the washer and that worked fine. I tried the rinse cycle and that worked fine. It just made noise on the start cycle. The agitator was working while it made the noise.
My wife put some items in the washer later and just ran the rinse cycle and the washer worked fine. Later that evening she decided to try the wash cycle again and the machine worked just fine, no grinding noise.
What caused the noise and what should I check to see if there is any damage I should be concerned with?
Thanks for your help.
Is it possible that the washer was overloaded? if so the agitator has little plastic "gears" that move the agitator one way only, they could have made the sound.
you can also check under the washer to see if anything (like a coat-hanger or something) is interfering with moving parts of the washer
