To change the sleep mode: Press Menu Numbers 1, 8. From your key pad select the amount of time before the fax goes to sleep. 0 - 99 Press Set Press Stop/Exit You can find the user manual here for the future if you would like: http://welcome.solutions.brother.com/BSC/Public/files/dlf/doc000082/FAX4100_US_UG_0.pdf Hope that helps... Your advice doesn't address the problem of DISABLING the sleep mode, only of setting it to the maximum of 99 minutes. I've found it annoying myself and have tried everything, and was hoping to find a solution here. But, alas, not so much. Thanks anyway!

I'm getting error code 388 when I fax to one specific location - can fax to all other numbers but this one.

The fax machine has originated a fax session and detected a remote fax machine but has been unable to connect to it. If the machine is in V.17 mode, it is likely the connection has been interrupted. In V.34 mode it is also possible for this error to occur due to compatibility problems with certain machines and/or line conditions.

Solution:

1. Reattempt the fax transmission at a different time when telephone line conditions have improved.
or
2. Disable V.34 on the local machine and attempt the transmission using the V.17 mode. I hope I have been able to help you. Have a NICE Day!!

I can't get it out of sleep mode; can't find the "Menu Map" either

It may be that the board has a glitch. I usually solve that problem by disconnecting the tel line and power cord. Wait a few minutes, then re install the power cord, then the tel line cord. The machine then should go through a self check and the sleep mode will be disabled until the next inactivity period (5mins) During this time you can go through the set-up and disallow the sleep mode completely.

We have a Brother Intellifax 4100e, business class laserfax, superg3 fax machine in our office. When the fax machine goes into sleep mode, we can't get it to come out of sleep mode unless we unplug it and...

Try changing the sleep mode settings. Sometimes it's set too long or too short. You can try the perimeter reset as well. The instructions I have for that is as follows:

hit the menu button and numbers *2864 (star before the four numbers)
then hit 91(set) wait a few seconds for the maintenance screen to return
then hit 99(set) when it beeps saying completed that could fix your problem.

Hope this helps.

Sleep mode will not disable, even when send button pushed, paper put in for fax or receiver taken off hook. Sleep mode set to default 5 minutes.

Press Menu 1,8
then set minutes to 00
press Stop/Exit

This should disable Sleep mode. Please post back with any questions or to rate this solution. Thank you very much.

Copier will not warm up. Turned off and restarted the fax but still won't print. I don't know what I pushed but is say sleep on the screen. We can not find the manuel.

on the bro 2820 you can disable the sleep mode by entering "menu/set", "1", "6", "2" then pressing "start" and "options" simultaneously. next, press "stop/exit" key once or twice to back out of the menu mode. you'll have to turn off machine, then back on for settings to take affect.

UNABLE TO REMOVE SLEEP MODE

you can't take it off of sleep mode. the only thing you can do is set it to go into sleep mode anywhere between 0 to 99 minutes. you do that by pressing "menu, 1, and 8." there, you can input how long you want sleep mode. no way of completely disabling. i'm thinking that somehow, it must have gotten set to 0 minutes.

i don't have the owners manual handy, but i'm quite sure you can disable the sleep mode by pressing a couples of buttons on control panel. that procedure is in your owners manual on the same page as setting sleep time.
