Asus m2n-mx se plus windows xp wont boot

I went through installing windows xp on my pc booting from cd, first through a sata hard drive, then again with an ide hard drive (i disconnected the connection and updated bios on each drive on every attempt so the drive wont show an error),both times when the initial installation is done (after if asks for language and location) and it restarts, it freezes each time on the windows xp logo and wont go any further. all i have installed is the motherboard, a cd drive, and the hard drives i need help

Kind of the same problem. Windows will boot in safe mode but freezes when trying to boot in normal mode. It is a fresh installation of windows with SP3 installed.

How do you not allow windows to format when doing the fresh install?

Have an ASUS M2N motherboard with 1 IDE hd and 1 IDE CD-RW. I have not been able to install Vista nor XP Pro. The install freezes at about "13 minutes left" in the install process for XP (so I have no idea what is being installed what XP is trying to accomplish when the process freezes). Interesting, I was able to install a small linux (Puppy Linux). It also would not intall and had a kernal panic which was "failur to sync IO with ACPI", installation with "noACPI" went ok and it ran. Very interesting it still froze when I tried to get on the network through my home router.
Would switiching to a SATA hd be of any value? What ever is wrong is very low level, possibly bad motherboard. I assume that since it runs "a little" under linux, that the CPU is ok. Anyone have any ideas?

All you need is the hard drive manufacture's setup software. Flashing you're bios is not the answer. On each drive (SATA & IDE) is the name & model number. Go to the Mf's site & download the free setup software, tools & utilities. Most sites will list software you can download to creat a bootable floppy disk or software to creat a bootable CD. Run the software on the SATA drive. Than unplug the SATA data cable & connect one IDE at a time. Again down load the Mfg's setup software. Do the same for the other IDE. Disconnect the data cable for the IDE drives. Do a fresh install of windows. (DO not allow windows to format the drive)! Just install windows & the motherboard drivers. Than update windows. Durring reboot press & hold the power on button on the PC untill it powers off. Connect the two IDE drives. Check the pin settings on the IDE drives. Set AS; Primary IDE drive 1 as master with a slave. Set IDE two as a slave drive.
Check the bios Boot setting. Make sure the SATA drive is listed in the boot order. Save & exit the PC. Windows should boot just fine.

Good Luck!
Still have an issue, post the trouble here with a description.

New build pc no boot... black screen

Try to remove the battery from the MB, and next time you try to install WIN XP, when you are asked how to format your drive, chose quick NTFS formatting; disable floppy drive in BIOS, because it might try to boot from it (and I suppose you don't have one), and in boot sequence (BOOT DEVICE PRIORITY) set cd-dvd as first, and HDD as second, and turn off any other device as bootable

ASUS M2N MX SE Motherboard

Check the BIOS settings at boot up to see if you can select the primary hard drive there. Several motherboards have this option and it's buried in the boot settings. Let us know how it works out and good luck...

BIOS 1004 cpu not support

I got it :-)

Damn Asus , it was a hard session ;-)

1. Make an ISO from your original Asus CD denn insert (with isobuster or something) the Bios Firmware 1004 in the main Dir name the file M2N-MX.ROM

2.Burn a Second disc with the 0804 Bios ROM also rename the 0804 Rom to M2N-MX.ROM

3. Go to EZ FLASH with ALT + F2 and then insert the 1004 CD wait till Erasing is ready Then Turn OFF your PC :-) so you crashed the bios thats what you need to run the embeded CrashFRee Tool

4 After you turn your PC on insert the 0804 CD then it flashes the this Rom and we are Happy :-)

Sata/raid not working on ASUS M2N MB

You may need to set up the RAID array before it will be detected. Look in the BIOS and see if there is a way to set up the RAID array there. If there isn't, watch as the PC boots up and see if there is an option to go into the RAID settings before windows starts. You may need to actually create an array before it will be seen.
