11 year old amana frig icemaker

When water comes on to fill the bin to make the icecubes water shoots all over the existing cubes and also all over the frozen food and down in the bottom of the frig. if the water filter is clogged will this cause the water pressure to drop to the icemaker and then cause this problem or does the water to the icemaker not run through the filter. i see a hose comes in near the top of the back of the frig but when i look inside i do not see that small clear only a larger one. the icemaker was still making ice, maybe a little to fast i dont know but at some point shooting water all over everything when im not looking. is their a booklet that shows me what the inside of the icemaker looks like or where the water tube comes in?

Maybe i'm not explaining it correctly. It makes ice cubes just fine and the ice cubes dump in the ice bin just fine. I think the problem occurs when the water is filling the compartment that makes the cubes it doesnt stop after it fills and overflows all over the freezer. but it does stop eventually. I finally caught it right after the new cubes dropped in the ice bin and it started to fill again. Could it be stopped up somewhere ?Where is the mechanisim that detects when it has enough water and shuts off the flow? What is it called?

Why does water drop before ice is made?

Refrigerator Leaking From Icemaker
If it's leaking from inside the freezer then it's coming from the icemaker or the drain. Lets start with the icemaker. If it's the icemaker there will likely be an ice hanging from the icemaker or just a big block of ice in the ice bin. In any case, it will be obvious.
There are a few reasons this will happen: one is the icemaker will stop turning when it gets to the fill cycle. This will happen when the gears in the icemaker break. On GE icemakers that were made before the year 2000, you can see the gears by taking off the cover on the front of the icemaker. However, if the small gear is broke you can't buy it as far as I know. I have been taking them off of junk icemakers for years. So this part may be hard to find. But if the big gear is broke replace it. Another reason icemakers leak is the fill tube is stopped up and I already discussed this earlier (replace water valve and clean out tube).
Another reason icemakers leak is that the water comes in too fast so it over fills the first cube mold. When this happens you will get a few drops of water when it fills. To fix this you have to take the icemaker out and remove the piece on the side of the icemaker. I don't know the name of it so for this we'll call it cube separator because that's what it does (most of them just snap off others have a screws). Now take silicone (RTV) and put a small amount around the first cube mold only under the cube separator. Now reinstall the cube separator and wipe off excess silicone and it shouldn't leak anymore.
Another reason that icemakers leak is that the refrigerator water valve sticks after the icemaker goes out of the fill cycle. When this happens the valve stays on and the icemaker keeps on turning, in which case, replace the refrigerator water valve.

Kenmore Coldspot #106.9750610. Icemaker does not

restricted water flow or pressure from house water where your taped into. your shut off or Tap a line may be cloged or if you have a water filter its cloged. It could also be a bad water valve in rear of refrig. start at the sourse of water and work back to frig. A rare thing could be that the timing gear on the ice maker is burnt and not trigering valve long enough to fill icemaker

I have hollow icecubes too, and water from the un frozen icecubes spills in bin and all the other cubes stick together. IS There Not a way to adjust the timer on the icemake to turn slower so they will...

your hollow cubes tells me your ice-mkr is not receiving enough water. first check water supply. does your refrig. have a water filter? also you could have a bad/restricted water valve.

Kenmore refer #70162990 ice maker leaking into storage tray

Please confirm you have given the complete model number.

If the icemaker has a bail wire to control how much ice is in the bin, there is a fill switch inside the front cover of the ice maker which allows you to increase or decrease the amount of fill.

You may also have a cracked or corroded ice mold. Check by filling the icemaker with water manually, and watching to see if it drips once the initial overfill stops dripping. This would also be indicated by the ice cubes being smaller than usual.

Ice maker overflows

The Icemaker may not be dumping the cubes after they freeze then more water pours in on top of them. The icemaker has a heater which turns the cubes loose and allows them to dump. You may find someone to work on an icemaker, not sure. If this is the case, I would replace the icemaker.

I have a 13 year old refrigerator with an icemaker. I installed a water line to get water to the fridge. The hose is connected to the water main and the fridge. I am not getting any ice.

Obviously, your ice maker problem could be any number of things... Now that you have water to the ice maker, is the inlet valve opening to allow water to get to the ice maker itself? If it is, is the line that runs between the inlet valve free to allow water to get to the ice maker? if it is, is the ice maker cycling ( meaning the motor rotates the drive mechanism that times the cycle of opening the valve, rotating the mold tray then releasing the ice with a small mold release heater? An ice maker that's ~ 13 years old probably has a removable front cover so that you can see the drive gears.. Also, is the lever that senses the ice cube bin is over full in a position ( normally down) that allows th eice cube maker to cycle? Hopefully, these simple checks will help you trouble shoot the problem and get your icemaker functioning again. Hope this helps !

I own a GE side by side refrigerator Model GSS22KGPD WW, Serial AG225890. This the third frig of the same model with the same identical problem. The ice cube dispenser on the door only gives crushed ice...

  •  if the cubes that the icemaker makes are full size then... the water valve on the back of the machine is usually the culprit in these cases. it will not close fast enough resulting in a little overflow of water into the auger assembly every time it makes ice. it only takes a little bit of water to settle in the bottom of the pan to cause problems.
  • if the cubes are smaller than what you would expect then the water is leaking out right before it reaches the icemaker. either from the plastic tube behind the icemaker or the cup on the icemaker that funnels the water into the icemaker.
  • it also could be the timer inside the icemaker leaving the water valve on too long.
  • all these things can be tested on site. the service person must not be very well trained.
if you already checked this and think it is a different problem then let me know, i will help you figure it out.

Amana water fill and ice maker

check the flow from the water line of the house to the water valve of the frig not connected to the valve it should fill a large container fairly quickly
if it does the problem is with the water valve of the frig
if it does not fill the container fairlly quickly then the problem is the plumbing of the house to the frig valve
