Garmin GPS GSMAP 182C Chartplotter will not boot up

This is not for the product listed. My GPS unit is not listed; it is a Garmin GSMap 182C and is for marine use. This GPS Chartplotter has worked well in the past, but this year it opens to the first page where you need to push any key to agree and continue. This page also has, at the bottom the message "Please wait reading card", and no matter which button is pushed, it will not go beyond this page. I believe that the unit is acquireing satellites in the backgroud because when the unit is turned on I see the message "acquireing satellites" which later goes off. Any Ideas?

I assumed that the the problem was in the membor card. Is there a way to check or replace it? If so, how do you do it?

Try and doing a Master Reset on the GPS. This will bring it back to Factory settings. I have seen this issue with Garmin Street Pilot GPS systems. To reset them you turn the GPS off and then turn it on again while you hold down the map and find buttons. Try this and let me know. Does your GPS have these buttons? If not let me know. I am looking up the specs for your GPS right now. Thanks - Tech101

Also if you do need to send it in for service it may still be under warranty. Garmin is pretty good about this and if you contact them they will pre-pay the shipping for you. Once they recieve the unit they send you a replacement. Here is a link with their contact information:

    Garmin Support Information and Instructions

You first have to conatct support and get an RMA number from them before you return it.

If you found this solution helpful please rate it when you get a chance. Thanks - Tech101

Hi,

You may want to check:
1. possibly an internal/backup memory battery near end of its life; and/or
2. possible software/firmware update from here.

Hope this be of initial help/idea. Pls post back how things turned up or should you need additional information.

Good luck and kind regards.

Thank you for using FixYa.

If the unit doesn't go further from the reading card. this may indicate that theres a problem in the memory card.

Not being able to a get a signal lock on satellites would indicate a problem either in the software something is wrong or not geting loaded correctly (the memory card) Or a hardware problem.

You may have to take it in for service if you are unable to check the memory card or replace it.

I have a Garmin 182c with a garmin GSD20 sounder unit ,if my transducer wire is cut or nicked would it cause the unit to unit to read " sonar turned off" ?

If you nicked it good enough yes it can. If the receiver doesn't detect the transducer, a digital message on the display will indicate this.

I have the same unit that is having screen problems. I have been unable to locate parts for this unit. I was told that there are no parts available for these units. I am looking to buy a screen that will replace mine. I am trying to find the specs so that I can find a manufacturer with a unit I can fix my GPS with. Or, if you are interested in selling yours at a decent price, let me know.
