Ge Profile bottom freezer, french door refrig, water filter

The water filter in our new refrig needs to be replaced every two weeks instead of every six months as called for by GE. According to GE the filters are "Too good" and they are getting many calls about the filters. The tech that came out to our home told us to just by pass the filter. I asked I if I should by pass the freezer should it not work in the future. The service tech told us to get a pre-filter installed. We had our water tested by an independent company and were told we do not need a filter. None of the homes adjacent to ours are in need of filters either. We have been trying to get GE to deal with this problem form the day we took possession until now (6 months). The warning light to replace the filter does not work and the door handles have fallen off as well. Please Help!!! About 2 weeks after a new filter is installed the water stream from the in-door water dispenser has a greatly reduced flow and the ice cubes are very small. The ice from the ice maker is often dispensed wet.

Just replace GE's filter with a standard inline filter that hooks to 1/4" water line tubing. Sounds like their filter has no flow rate either...

Im at the six month point, red light flashing, which of the filters do i replace and do i need to sanitize the storage tank?

The filters that you should replace every the six months are the two pre/post filters (FQROPF). The membrane (FQROMF) needs to be replaced every 1 to 2 years. During the filter change, bacteria could be introduced, so it is recommended that you sanitize the tank while changing the filters. Here are the filters you need to replace:

Where is the water filter for the ice maker located on a GE tfx24zr side by side refridgerator located

Filters situated in the interior liner of the refrigerator compartment of GE-built side-by-side refrigerators are relatively simple to replace. Follow these steps:
  1. Remove the old filter by grasping it and slowly making a one quarter turn to the left.
  2. Pull down gently on the filter to remove it from the mounting bracket assembly. Be careful to not tip the filter, as water may spill out of it.
  3. Discard used filter.
Water by Culligan filter cartridges need to have a water filter adapter installed. This is a one time installment, and once you have this adapter installed, it stays in the refrigerator for all future filter replacements. If your refrigerator already has this adapter in place, do not remove it to replace the filter.
Smart Water filter cartridges do not require the use of the water filter adapter. If for some reason your refrigerator has an adapter in place already, you will have to remove it before installing a Smart Water filter cartridge. The adapter is removed in the same manner as the filter itself: with a gentle quarter turn to the left.
Remove the new filter from its packaging. Apply the appropriate month sticker to the filter to remind yourself to change it again in six months' time.
Fill the filter with water from the tap, and then line the arrow on the filter up with the arrow on the cartridge holder inside your refrigerator.
The filter automatically pulls itself into position as you turn the filter to the right and lock it in place. Be careful to not over tighten the filter into position.
Run water through your dispenser for about three minutes to clear the system. Keep in mind that a newly installed water filter could initially cause water to spurt from the dispenser.
Note: Replacing this type of filter is a quick process - there is no need to unplug your refrigerator when replacing it. Also, this filter should be replaced every six months.
Hope this was helpful to you. Thank you for using fixya.

Side by side refrig - ice maker and water don't work after replacing the filters. is there a re-set?

Removing a water filter from the inside of your Frigidaire brand refrigerator:

Removing and replacing a water filter - upper right hand corner inside location

Filters situated up front in the refrigerator compartment of Frigidaire-built side-by-side refrigerators are relatively simple to replace. Follow these steps:
  1. Open the door of the refrigerator compartment of your Frigidaire brand side-by-side refrigerator. The filter is located in the upper right hand corner. It has a push button for quick release just to the right of the filter.

  2. Locate the icemaker On/Off power switch and place it in the OFF (o) position.

  3. Push in on the filter release button and pull the filter all the way out to remove it. Remove new filter from its packaging and remove the protective plastic caps. Insert the new filter in the same manner it was removed. Make sure to push in firmly on the filter until you hear the filter cartridge click in place.

  4. Return the icemaker's power switch to the On (l) position.

  5. Condition the filter by running water through the dispenser for about three minutes. This will flush the filter of all fine carbon particles.

  6. In some models, you will have to reset the filter status light. It is located on the ice and water dispenser control panel. Push in on it for ten to fifteen seconds until the green, red, and amber lights flash. If your refrigerator model does not have a filter status light, you should make a note on a calendar, or place a month sticker on your filter to remind you to replace the filter again in six month's time.

Note: Replacing this type of filter is a quick process - there is no need to unplug your refrigerator or shut off the water supply when replacing it. Also, this filter should be replaced every six months.

My water preasure in door is terrible takes forever to fill glass

Either replace the water filter or replace the water valve ( located behind the refrig where the wall water line connects to ) or , install the water filter bypass piece which came with the refrig . ( This will tell you if the filter needs replaced ) .

GE TBX22ZA refrig. automatic ice maker stopped making ice. I replaced the first ice maker when it stopped working with one I found at a thrift store that was still in it's original box, never used. The...

sounds like the water inlet valve/solenoid may be bad. I've had some to work awhile then quit. It could be trash inside of the inlet valve. If it has a water filter on the frig try changing it also. But try the solenoid first by turning your freezer section thermostat to its highest reading to for see if the solenoid is going to work.

With the refrig , you should have gotten a small bypass piece which fits in place of the inside filter . Install this to see if the filter is good or not . Water faster , replace filter , still slow , possible water valve problem . Also use a connector usually a 1/4 x 1/4 compression fitting , to bypass the outside filter for test purposes only .

I just replaced the filter in my GE SmartWaterfileter again!

With your refrig , you should have gotten a piece to put in place of the filter . Try that piece to see if your water pressure is stronger . If so , then either an old filter or another new will be necessary .

I have a GE side by side stainless steel refrig. the water will not dispense. How can I fix it?

Is there water to the water valve in the rear of the fridge? If yes, replace the water filter if older than 6 months or if you're on a well. You may need an inline water filter behind your fridge in addition to the one in the fridge to protect the water valve. If no, turn on the water. If you're making ice but no water dispense and you have a new water filter. Replace the water valve.
