Question about Acer Aspire 1640Z Notebook
This problem began afetr owning the laptop for about a year, but using it very little. The keyboard and mouse pad stopped working, the CD drive was very slow, and the laptop shut down after being on battery for only five minutes afetr a complete charge. I searched on internet and found many people have had this problem. The solution seemed to be remove the battery and use it on mains power. This certainly does work, but put the battery back in and the problem returns. I have concluded that the battery must be defective, since my other laptop has a fully dead battery still installed which does not affect the performance at all. To recap - when in place, the battery stops the laptop working whether plugged in or not; when removed, the laptop works perfectly on mains.
Can anyone out there help me. I have contacted Comet, who of course refuse to take responsibility for supplying a defective battery. They say it has reached the end of its life, and they're not guaranteed.
What's happening is that the battery has developed a dead short. This interferes with the machines performance. You will find that there is no one out there that warranties batteries. After all, it is a battery and they don't last forever, it will need to be replaced. Keep in mind that every battery is different, some are better than others, even though they may be from the same manufacturer. Some will hold a better charge, and some will last longer before replacement, and sometimes you will get a dud. Unfortunately, this is just the way it is with batteries.
