Possible solutions:

  1. borrow the disc from a friend
  2. take it to a computer repair shop where they can reinstall it for you
  3. find your disks
  4. buy new disks
let me know if you need anything else

I'm trying to reboot my e-machines w3107 to it's factory settings, and i had no luck, i lost the recovery cd, what can i do?

The E-Machines W3107 ships with Windows XP home edition. I will provide support for Windows XP. If you have upgraded to another version of Windows let me know in the comments section and I will provide further support.

The first thing you should do before performing any kind of system restore is to back up any important data on your computer. To do so, either save the files you need on disks, an external hard drive, or other storage device. If you need help with this, let me know.

Once you have everything you need backed up it is time to start the recovery process. Restart your computer (Start> Turn off computer> restart). Once your computer boots back up, remove all the disks from your disk drives (CD's, floppy disks, etc.), and unplug all devices connected to your computer except for your mouse, keyboard, and monitor. This includes your modem (if applicable) and printer.

After all disks and devices have been removed, open the start menu, go to "all programs," then find the "e-machines" folder. In that folder, click "eMachines Recovery Management" and select the "restore" tab at the top of that window.

More than likely you have not yet set a recovery password, so click the button that says "password settings." Follow the onscreen instructions to create a new password and click "ok." Once that's done, click "restore system to factory default."

You will then be prompted to enter the password you just created. Do so, click "ok," then click "next," then "finish." Your computer will then begin recovering.

Stay by your computer as it restarts and begins to install Windows again. This will take some time, but you need to stick around to follow the onscreen instructions for configuring windows.

Thanks for using Fixya! If you need anymore help, feel free to leave a comment in this thread and I will get back to you.

I am trying to do a clean install of windows xp home sp1 and my computer freezes up around 7% on the install... HELP

When you next try, format the drive using the install disc, it should give you the option for that when it first boots up. This will erase the drive totally and give a full, clean install.

Had to reformat drive,it totally crashed

If you completely formatted the drive and did a clean install using factory disks and it still didn't install properly you may have bad sectors and you may need to replace the drive.

Are certain restore disks interchangeable?

Unfortunately you cant use a vista restore disk for a XP operating system.

You could install vista on it and then use XP compatibility mode for whatever programs you want to run. Simply right click on the program and select the compatability tab..change to XP.

My computer won't let me install anything and says the Windows Installer can't be found. I don't have the original installation disks.. help!

It sounds like you have a corrupt Windows installer. You shouldnt need the installation disks. Open Internet Explorer and click on Tools>Windows Update
If Windows installer is not one of the recommended downloads, then search the Windows support site for "download Windows installer".

I am assuming you are running Windows XP?

Cannot get windows xp back on to my computer.

Assuming the computer has a Microsoft XP product code tag on it (so you can be legit & legal), see if you can borrow an XP installation CD from a friend.

Sometimes the reinstall is set up on a separate partition on the hard disk, which of course, is totally useless if the hard drive has failed in a catastrophic way.

You could also contact Packard Bell (I thought this company was history), to see if replacement disk(s) are available. Have your computer's Model & Serial handy. The disks won't be free, but likely much less than a Walmart etc, supplied edition.

Reinstalling Windows XP Home Edition on Gateway 500XL

it is all to do with the installation. You will need to install windows freshly. the disks you are using sound like they are recovery disks but if you have formatted your harddrive then they may not work.

if you have a windows disk and are trying to load it and are having problems doing this then let me know

EMachines PC that has not yet been thrown out the window, but....

If this computer came with XP Home, and you don't have a disc, then they would have put the restore files in a separate partition on the hard drive. Do you have the manual for the pc? It's possible to recover your system without losing everything. What happened when you used the recovery disks and XP Pro?
