Most likely, your heads are clogged - you need to use an 8mm tape head cleaner. Be careful where you buy as there are a lot of chinese knock-offs that are junk. We do have a supply of the original tape head cleaners from Sony. Contact Us at AVRepair com

Video banding

Well this is a case of the good ole Sound/Picture heads being dirty, the reason you are seeing old recordings and not good new one's is due to the heads not making good contact with the heads, please simply buy a new 8mm tape cleaner, place in camera and press play till 30 seconds have gone okay?

No picture in record mode, only broad band of light

Your assessment of the problem is quite accurate. The image sensor (CCD) is kaput. Here's a link to this well-documented defect. http://www.imaging-resource.com/badccds.html

8mm Samsung camcorder: choppy playback

This seems like a tape playback problem. Can you look at the output of the tape in the camera directly into a monitor? And checking the tapes on another machine would also be good.

The fast movement breakup can be something in the playback circuitry of the camera. It may not show up in the viewfinder. Also yo umay try repacking the tape. Fast forward it to the end and rewind it all the way.

Sony TRV510-playback, audio choppy, image isn't clear

I was having the exact same problems, and I read a post on this website somewhere recommending that I just record a few seconds of video on a blank portion of tape and then the camera should start playing video normally again.

I tried it, and IT WORKED!!

TRV138 Audio only on playback.

The video heads are clogged or broken. Remove the cassette cover and in the middle back of the mech is a cylinder, this is the drum assy. You can gently spin the drum and look for a black piece of carbon (tiny). This is actually one of the heads. You can take a swab (Q-tip) with liquid head cleaner and very gently clean the heads (more than one) wipeing horizontally, never vertically to clean the heads. Inspect for broken heads as well.
