Typically (although all computers may have slightly different logic), if the computer knows there is a problem with the sensor, it will use a retarded default ignition timing that is less fuel efficient but is safe for operation without damaging the engine. This is known as limp mode. As long as the car isn't knocking, you will not damage the engine, but you may experience reduced gas mileage. OK?
