Dvd recording failure

My dvd no longer records. after cleaning it several times with no success I took it apart to see if something looked wrong. One part had a burn mark. The unit # is n78fbcun. The part that is burned has a number be7a00f0106. do you know if that part can be replaced? The price to replace the entire unit is more than I paid for the whole dvd/vcr. If you have any information I could really use the help.

I get the not a writeable disk message after receiving an error during a recording of a dvd. It seems to be a heat problem as this has happened before and when I let it cool down for a while all was well until it happened again, now. This is the greatest thing since sliced bread when it works, I love it, but now it's frustrating.

It took about 45 minutes, without a manual. Carefully disconnecting all cables and marking them so the would go back in the right place later. Carefully Disassembling the unit, removing the cover - 6 screws, noting all screws and where they came from, pulling the front panel using the plastic tabs, removing the top front edge cover - two screws, removing the disk assembly - 4 screws, pulling the two thin leads so I could pull the entire assembly out. Removing the back plastic cover from the DVD assembly and identifying the Optical Disc Lense. Spraying some LENSE CLEANER on the same cloth that I clean my glasses with, and carefully wiping across - gentle stroke in same direction, then opposite direction - a few times. Spray lense cleaner on the cloth not on the lense. Reassemble. Reverse order of above. Works great now. BEST OF LUCK....Or you can find almost any DVD repair facility. This is not a unique process. WOW this system has a lot of problems. I am having the same exact problem. At first it quit recording/dubbing on ALL the DVD-R disks, except for Sony. It quit.....then I used a DVD cleaning disk.....then it worked.....now I keep getting the same recording error: "Cannot record on this disk" E4 54037380. Now the disks I have used up to this point were 1x-16x, so should I try a lower speed or is this unit a lost cause? And yea, I tried their 800 number too, and that was a waste of time. I haven't even had this unit a year yet. Any help on this would be great.

Yes, I agree. Dust on the lense will create this error as it did on mine. However, to save you a lot of tech fees or difficulty in dismantling the machine, just buy a can of AIR or Duster, etc. Open the DVD slide and "unplug" the unit from the wall. This will leave the door open. Lightly push the carrier back about halfway. Use a flashlight to look into the DVD and find the center area. Place the plastic tube on the air can in this area and blow it clean. Don't scrape or touch any of the mechanisms inside for safety. Plug it in and it should work if it is dust. This of course does mean that it will likely do it again and could use a 'good' cleaning as suggested above. But it is an easy quick fix. And if you are like me, I won't use it again for another six months.

SOURCE: Cannot play DVD's I burn at home on my PC.

The older dvd players may not be compatible with dvd-r disks. The newer ones usually will read all dvd formats. Hope this helps & please remember to rate my answer. Thanks.

My toshiba dr4su will no longer record on dvd-rw discs nor will it format a blank or prerecorded dvd-rw.Ihave used this recorder successfully for a couple of years. It will play back dvd-rw. When I attempt...

If its an older recorder it could be the usual problem of a greasy center-disc =
95% OF THE TIMES I could fix a problem like this was by cleaning with rubbing alcohol the rubber ring on the little rotating disc in the center of the drive mechanism. !!!! Because users always stick their index finger into the hole of all the CD'S for inserting a disc into the tray that a tiny amount of grease gets deposited onto the little rotation disc which touches the center of any inserted disc at about half an inch from its center hole. (underneath) When its greasy the discs slide and the inserted discs speed stays uneven and slow.
You must open the drivebox ( after unplugging the power-cable) to see and clean it.
Be careful to not look at it with power "on" because the laser will make you go blind (danger!!!!!!!
I heavily use a Toshiba DVD recorder since 12 years and it is my most reliable and most versatile recorder, while my brand new Sony recorder lasted only 2 years - Others as well had problems with finalizing etc. but in general the cleaning of the little center-disc that pushes from underneath against an inserted DVD to make it spin helps the most.

Panasonic DVD recorder #DMR-EH65. It will accept a blank dvd then go into read,I can hear the lens assembly go back and fort several times, then it says disc error.Did the lens life expire?

Hello timmy: The recording process on the dvd recorder side is done is done by a seperate lens from the playback, so there could be something wrong with the writable side of the optical assembly, another thing to consider trying is the cleaning disc if you haven't tried this, another brand of blank disc and finally a firmware update is available from panasonic for the specific model you have, I don't know if you have updated it but here is the overall description: DMR-EH55 DVD Recorder Firmware Update
  • Version UP-317
  • Compatible Models DMR-EH55S
  • Issues Addressed Issues Addressed
    1. Corrects DVD Recorder hang-up or freezing during DVD playback caused by connection to Scientific Atlanta cable box model # 3250.
    2. Resolves U71 error message caused by HDMI connection to Philips TV.
    3. Improves DVD-Video playback of DVD+RW discs.
    4. Prevents DVD Recorder from turning on Panasonic TV's power by HDAVI control (EZ Sync) when connected with HDMI at completion of copying or finalizing.
    5. Resolves SET CLOCK MANUALLY tab being grayed out after a power failure.
I hope this is helpful and the update is available from panasonic.com, all you need is to type the model number in the search windows after you click the support option. Thanks!

HDD error

I have a SONY RDR HX-750 video recorder, that as of late has frequent "dub error" incidents...this unit has had a lot of use since purchased. It has served me very well until now. I have erased several recordings (many hours), and optimised the hard drive in an effort to correct the problem...to no avail. The problem persists. I can therefore, ownly deduct that the dvd drive is very "dirty", and needs to be "cleaned" (HOW CAN I DO THIS?)...or there is something wrong with the hard drive? Can you please help? Many thanks for any help and your time and consideration. Have a very good day!

My DMR-E80H will no longer record onto blank DVDs

One solution is to clean the laser lens. Try using one of those lens cleaning CDs.

Also, sometimes the DVD may slip on the spindle, which may cause reading errors. Spindle cleaning usually involves taking the machine apart.

You could not format the disc due to error detection, whats wrong

You can get this if you´re using RAM-discs previously recorded/formatted on a different recorder. Clean the disc REALLY WELL and try inserting several times, it may pass.

If you put a disk in and it just clicks several times, it's more than likely the spindle motor. It's best just to replace the DVD drive. My own theory is that when you record in the high speed mode, it is just too much for the spindle motor to handle over time. I keep my record speed in the standard mode to play it safe.

SAMSUNG DVD R120 error EC:0207

I had exactly the same problem -- error message of "This disc can be neither played nor recorded. Please check the disk [EC:0207]" after the machine had been working fine for a year. I downloaded the latest firmware from the Samsung website, burned it to a CD-R disk (took three tries until the DVD Recorder recognized the disk -- worked when I used Rocio CD Creater software), then loaded the firmware updates to the DVD Recorder. On the Samsung website you can retrive the firmware update instructions as well. I had to perform the firmware upgrade several times until it successfully updated both the system firmware as well as the disk firmware. After successfully updating both, the Recorder now recognizes the DVD-R disks and I was able to resume recording. I have however, noted some choppiness with the playback of the newly recorded disks. Other than that, the firmware upgrade successfully resolved the problem.

Doesn't hold the current date when turned off

There is a battery on the motherboard, next to the power supply connector, which may be bad or not connected securely.  That's the first place I'd look, although it should produce other symptoms, especially inability to 'remember' other setting, such as channel memory.
