Question about Dell Dimension 4700 PC Desktop
Hi, I have this start up problem where I have to press my on switch about 5 times before my computer actually starts up. For example, I press on, the computer lights turn on, but the monitor does not show any action. Then I turn the computer off by pressing the same button (hold it down until the computer turns off). I wait ~10 seconds and have to repeat this about 5 times before my computer starts up. Do you think it's a virus? I've been trying McAfee's free virus removal software, Adware, Microsoft update, Symantec Antivirus, Firewall...what else can I do? Am I infected?
Many thanks and best wishes,
First of all you should use only any one antivirus.
actully your problem show any sin of virus in your pc, so just
don't worry about virus. you should check your connection properly or there must be some fault in your cpu wire .

I don't think that this is a software (virus) issue. I am more incline to think that it is hardware, either video card, motherboard or power supply. Additionally, it is possible to verify this and specifically which part with the use of a hair dryer. Before powering up the PC, try to remove the side cover and blow hot air into the video card until the card feels reasonably warm (not hot) and power on the PC. Do this with the PSU and the general area of the motherboard near the BIOS chip. If it powers on after the hot air application, then you have just confirmed the cause and which part.
Often this is brought about by damp air or sudden changes in room temperature.
In some instances, this could signify a vital component nearing end of its life.
Hope this be of initial help/idea. Pls post back how things turned up or should you need additional information.
Good luck and kind regards.
Thank you for using FixYa.
