1 Fill the iron's steam receptacle with white vinegar or CLR, a product used to clean coffee pots. CLR is available in department stores.
2 Plug in and set the iron to its steam setting.
3 Operate as usual. When the vinegar or CLR begins to steam, operate the iron as you would normally. Press it over an old, clean towel as the vinegar or CLR loosens sediment and dirt from the appliance.
4 Continue ironing until all of the cleaning solution has steamed out. Repeat the cleaning process if necessary until the iron no longer oozes discolored liquid and the ironing surface is clean.
5 Fill the iron steamer receptacle with distilled water and set the appliance to steam.
6 Continue steaming until the smell of vinegar or CLR is gone.
7 Prevent future mineral buildup by using distilled water for steam in your iron, rather than tap water. Joe. Thanks for choosing Fixya!
Unless you are not going to use the iron for a long time, especially if you use distilled water to fill your steam iron, I would really not bother. However, if you do want to empty the iron after using it, you have a couple options: - With the iron still hot, very carefully, use the cleaning function or the 'shot' of steam until no more steam is generated above the sink preferrably. - With the iron unplug/NO electricty: very carefully tip the water out from whe filling hole above the sink - be aware that the water will remain extremely hot for a long time so avoid splashing water on yourrsel! Hope the information is useful.
No need to dismantle the iron. Just fill it with a 50/50 white vinegar/distilled water solution and allow the iron to expel all of it as steam. Rinse with distilled water and allow to pass as steam. If you use distilled water from now on, you should no longer have staining problems. Hope this helps!
The iron is probably clogged up from mineral deposits in the water. Fill the iron with a 50/50 mix of water and white vinegar. Heat the iron and let it set for awhile. Then steam the solution through the iron. Repeat the process if this does not work. If the Vinegar and water does not work, then try a product such as Lime Away or CLR to remove the deposits. After the iron is cleaned out, try using distilled bottled water in the iron, to reduce the mineral build up.
Hope this helps you!
It's a possibility that you iron steam making elements are caked with lime and possibly the steam holes as well.
Purchase some "Lime Away" and dilute it 50/50 and pour it into your steam iron (drain all the old water out first and leave the iron unpluged) let sit for an hour or so and drain out, fill it again with clear water shake and drain out do this a couple of time then turn on the steam and see if it works properly, use the first time on an old towel to be sure all the chemical has been rinced out. Good Luck.
Fill the Iron with water but keep the water level below the max line. Plug in the iron and set the temp to 6 and stand iron on it's heel and allow to heat for 3 mins. Now unplug the iron and take it to a sink move and Hold the variable steam dial in the CLEAN position. There may be some hissing and spitting while cleaning so be careful. Continue to hold the dial in the clean position until all the water has emptied. If necessary rock side to side and back to front to get all the water out. When finished release the steam dial plug in the iron and heat for about 2 mins to dry out the remaining water and unplug.
