Question about Toshiba Satellite 1410-S173 Notebook

1 Answer

Power up problem

When you plug the dc power supply in the left most light comes on (green) and the battery light comes on as a sick yellow color. If you leave it sitting like this for a period of time the battery light turns to green. Now when you push the power button the battery light goes out and the external power light goes to a yellowish color and starts blinking. You have to pull the battery out to reset the machine. The owner said that the unit had a problem turning on a few
times before but after pulling the battery and doing it again it would work.
Now it will not power up at all. Can you run this unit without the battery installed in the unit?

It has nothing to do with the ram, it is the issue of the adapter or battery for toshiba laptop, if the output volatge form the adapter is not steady, the light will get yellow and blink, try it on another toshiba laptop. if it is normal, u should test the toshiba laptop battery by the multimeter, connect the electroprobes wiht the anode and cathode, if the pointer does not fixed in a short time ,the battery is the issue. change it for a new one.

Could be a bad battery, a/c adapter or DC jack on the laptop.
Remove the battery and plug in the A/C and try to power on. If it comes on try to gently wiggle the plug where it meets the laptop. If it stays on then it's most likely a bad battery. If it shuts off when you wiggle it then the dc jack is bad. If none of these. Try gently wiggling the plug and tapping the power. If you get nothing at all it's probably the a/c adapter. If it comes on briefly then it's the dc jack

Post back in a Comment as to the computer manufacturer name, and model number. (Plus questions I asked)

Found on the back for a desktop computer, usually next to the Windows product key; or up on the side of the computer tower (Case)
I have seen some models (Dell) that there is a small front door you open, and the model number is down towards the bottom, on the inside. (Of computer, not door)

While I wait for your reply, in the meantime unplug the power cable to the optical drive (CD/DVD drive), and the harddrive.
Remove the Ram Memory.

Plug the computer back into power. Motherboard LED light on?
We are removing some devices that require power, to see if the motherboard LED power light comes on.

Hold the phone..............or are you referencing to the Green LED light that is on the back of the Power Supply?

The unit appears to be dead but the green and yellow channel LED's continuously flicker.

I am guessing that the lights are near the network cable plug? This simply shows that there is a signal on the network cable that is plugged-in. The laptop may be dead. Is there a light on the power supply? If you remove the battery, plug the power in and press the power button, what happens?

Laptop will not turn on and when you plug in the

You may have a DC Jack issue and needs to be replaced. Common with Acer models using the yellow DC jacks.

And since the battery will not charge, it is most likely a component issue. Shorted MOSFET in the charge section.

The battery indicator showing a yellow or orange indicates that the battery life is over. You may have to purchase a new battery.

Regarding the place where you can find information about these is that it is universal that the orange indicator means the battery is faulty.

My Dell Inspiron laptop won't power up. There are no lights AT ALL. It worked when I left for holiday. I have bought a new AC/DC power unit: just the same. The green light comes on when I plug the AC/DC...

If the light on the A/C adapter "goes out" when you connect it to the Laptop... then your motherboard is bad.

Your motherboard is "shorting out" the A/C adapter, in which case you will need a new motherboard.

Sorry....

If the a/c adaptor is plugged into a power strip, reset power strip by turning off and on. If there's no power on strip use another power outlet.

Make sure PC power supply is good and securely connected.

Often times when laptop won't power on, it's jack on the back where the power supply plugs in. It needs to be disassembled, soldered back together and that should fix it. Good luck!
