On my Slant Fin GF-200 humidifier, the "Refill/Reset" light came on and will not go off. I followed the instructions to clean the unit, but still no luck. Any ideas?

Yes, there is water in it, and it has been cleaned again. Still no luck.

I'm not sure exactly what you mean, but when I turn it on, there is a quiet hum, and if I take the tank off the base, I can see a green light coming through one of the holes from inside the base. When I first to it on, if I have the humidity dial turned all the way down, the Refill/Reset light does not come on (but the water does not boil/steam). The light comes on when I turn the dial past the 4th tick mark.

Yes, I see bubbles, and the sensors are submerged.

The humidifier doesn't run or get hot any more. I will try heating the vinegar before putting it in and let you know. Thanks!

Hello,

The refill/reset light comes on after the water level drops, Did you add water?

If so you might need to clean it twice.

Hope this helps, Matt

Does the humidifier work at all with the light on ( blower/heater)?

  • Matt Olenzek
    Matt Olenzek Dec 06, 2010

It sounds like the water is not entering, and submerging the two heater probes. When you put the tank back on, do you see bubbles in the tank? If not maybe its not seated right. Once the probes are under water and the thermostat doesnt over heat, the light wont come on. Just make sure the tank valve on the bottom is letting water out.

    How old is the humidifier?

When you cleaned it with white vinagar, did you run it and get it hot? You need to, in order for it to disolve the minerals that are blocking the water from regulating the heat at the probes.

How do I clean it?

If you're asking how to clean the inner workings of the humidifier ... Run a 50/50 solution of White Vinegar and Water through it. Then flush it with Bottled Distilled Water. As a matter of fact, using Bottled Distilled Water all the time, will cut down on having to clean the unit as often. Distilled water has no minerals and will not produce scale, like tap water.

the rusted sensors are the cause of your problem - as soon as the sensors do not conduct an electric current through the water (either because there is no water or because they have decayed), the humidifier shuts itself off. No instruction manual

FILLING THE WATER TANKS
1. Before filling the water tanks, push the POWER switch to the “OFF” position and
unplug unit. Refer to cleaning instructions.
2. Remove water tanks from base, turn each tank upside down and remove tank cap
by turning counterclockwise. Fill tank with clean cold tap water.
Replace the tank cap by turning clockwise. Tighten firmly.
3. Carefully pick up tank, since it will be heavy when full, and slippery if wet.
4. Place water tanks on base. Make sure tanks are properly placed, otherwise, the
humidifier will not work correctly.

Leaking rubber boot

Mine did the same thing at the end of last winter. I did not discover it to be one of the rubber tubes (boots as you say) until I went to use it this past fall. The manuf. said send it back for a replacement (they do not fix these or offer parts) which I did in Nov. and still have not received the replacement. Nice deal for them.

Humidifier's reset light flashes on and off

Most likely it is the water sensing transistor (C1815) in the unit. This can be replaced but it would have to be by someone who knows how to repair electronic instruments. The cross for the C1815 transistor is NTE85 and sells for about $1.50.

Clean/refill light

My Slant Fin humidifier has a floating, ring-shaped magnetic level that isn't replaceable. You can't even tell it's magnetic until you cut off the piece that prevents the white plastic float from rising past a certain point. It turns out that there is a ring-shaped magnet in the float.

I found that the Refill light would go off when I held a strong magnet near the float device.

So, I have suspended the magnet with string from the top of the humidifier outside the humidifier.

Caution: This fix disables the safety feature inherent in the low level shut off. I wonder why the manufacturer uses material that corrodes?
