1. Detach the hose and turn on. If it runs, place hand over opening. If it shuts off, the control valve assembly is dirty or worn out and needs cleaned/replaced. This is a job that should be done by an authorized Aerus Electrolux service tech. It's most commonly caused by use of "made-to-fit Electrolux" bags, rather than the genuine bags made by Home Solutions.

2. If the vacuum keeps running after detaching hose and placing hand over in port, then check the hose. Drop a coin or similar small item through the hose. If it doesn't go through, there's a clog. It will probably be at the bend of the handle. Plug hose into exhaust port and turn vacuum on. Make sure the other end of the hose is in a bag to catch the dirt and stuff coming out. If you have problems, it's easily removed by a service tech.

Why is my hoover windtunnel vacuum cleaner shutting off?

Hi there! Sounds like the thermal protector is being activated. This is usually caused by a clog or a filter that needs to be cleaned or replaced. Follow the steps below to prevent the unit from shutting off.

1. Remove the hose completely.
2. Use a broom stick to gently loosen and clear hose of clogs.
3. Remove the bottom plate and brush-roll.
4. Use a wooden spoon or something similar to break up and remove any clogs from lower hose.
5. Check the primary filter behind the side grille. If it is dirty you may rinse it under running water and allow 24 hours to air dry outside the vacuum.
6. Remove the bag door. Clean the primary filter located on the vacuum under the bag. Rinse with water and allow 24 hours to air dry outside the vacuum. The primary and secondary filters should be replaced at least once a year.
7. Check that the bag is not full. If it is, replace the bag.

The vacuum will turn back on when it cools off. This can take up to an hour. Hope this was helpful!

Why does my Vacuum shut off!

Has this happened numerous times? If so, and the filters (all filters) are thoroughly cleaned then its possible the thermal protection circuit could be worn out in the motor. If not, it could be an assortment of other issues. Could you please provide more info?

Electrolux 2100 vacuum

Electrolux has had this issue across all tank machines for years and it has to do with the orientation of the bag. The bags are model specific and must be installed properly. Consult your manual for the proper filter bags and how to install them. The door on the bag will pop open and shut down the machine if the bags are not the proper ones and don't fit precisely. It is supposed to be a safety feature but it annoys the devil out of people and has for years. Their machines are very powerful and well made, but if the bag does not seal properly around the hose inlet or the gasket around the door and bag chamber leak, then you will have this happen.

I have a Windsor Sensor s12 and power shuts off after 5 min. of vacuuming. I'm wondering if it's overheating of if there is some other sensor that causes it to shut off.

Your Sensor most likely has an internal heat sensor that is shutting off the motor. Some vacuums install an external heat sensor with a reset button that you must push to re-start the vacuum. If your model does not have an external reset button it is most likely a sensor inside the motor. If it is defective the motor must be replaced to solve the problem. But first make sure the overheating is not being caused by a blockage somewhere or the bag is too full. Air must pass completely through a vacuum starting at the floor where it picks up the dirt through all the canisters, filters, bags, etc. and then is exhausted from the vacuum. Any restrictions or blockage can cause the motor to over heat.

Make sure there is no obstruction anywhere along the hose. Also properly clean the filter and collection bag. This may have become blocked due to the fine ash, sort of sealing the bag.

We changed to a new bag and changed the filter but everytime we turn it on it goes off and the green light turns red.

Try this. Detach hose from canister. Turn on. What happens?
If it runs, place hand directly over intake port. What happens?
If it shut off immediately, an internal part is broken and needs to be replaced. This is a repair that needs to be done at an authorized Aerus, new name for the Electrolux company that made these vacuums, service center.
It's also a problem that's seen a lot when generic "made to fit" bags are used. Genuine bags are made by Home Solutions and will have their name on it. Use of generic bags also voids the warranty. Which, depending on date of purchase, yours may still have on the canister itself with it's components.
Wiring and switch problems can also cause this, so the machine, including hose, wands, and power nozzle, should be taken to a service center for a complete check.

My Hoover runs for a few minutes and shuts off.

It's possible the thermal reset is defective. It shuts the motor off if it gets hot. Remove the bag door and take the bag off, remove both filters and then turn the vacuum on, just leave it sit there with the motor running. This eliminates the bag or filters causing any airflow resistance. If it still shuts off after a few minutes it's likely the thermal reset is bad. Some vacuums have an external thermal reset button which can be replaced if necessary but on your model it is built into the motor and you must replace the motor. If the motor runs fine put the bag and the filter under the bag back in - (make sure the filter is clean and not restricting airflow) put the bag cover on then turn it on again. If it overheats and shuts off then you may have a clog on there somewhere restricting the airflow. If so check the power nozzle area, the hose coming from the power nozzle, the extension hose and wands for clogs or restrictions.

Try turning the knob on top of the machine all the way to the right and try it again
