I have been out of town for a few days and not had time to address this TV issue. My additional question is, are the convergance ICs something that is a pull and plug item or will the replacement be better left to someone skilled in electronics. Additionally, If I order the parts are the repair instructions sent with the part or is there another source for that information.

No the Convergence ICs need to be unsolderd and the new ones solderd in, and yes the instructions come with the ICs, often they email the instructions when the order is shipped so you have a chance to get famillar with the process while waiting for your parts.

Vertical position does not work on remote. Magic focus on green goes half way stops then number five comes on screen. Hitachi 51inch rear projection tv

Magic focus on a Hitachi only adjusts at 16 points on the screen and needs to be done in a dimly lit room. Frankly its a sales gimmick, the number 5 means one of the sensors inside the screen for the Magic focus is not connected or bad.

Go into the tech mode for convergence with the original remote (that menu is called the Decam mode) and see if convergence will adjust there. There are close to 120 points that can be adjusted there as opposed to less than twenty in the magic focus mode.

We cannot get the color to align. It appears like there is a blue or yellow background around words

If your TV looks 3D, warped, or distorted it likely has a convergenge problem.
If however it just looks dull, washed out, redish, greenish, or blueish or if it looks like objects on the screen have halos the fluid in the lens has soured.
You can search google for parts or you can get the parts with repair instructions from sites such as www.TvRepairKits.com

Here's a link to perform a DCAM convergence on your television and reset your magic focus. Instructions for the S series are halfway down but be sure to read the whole page. Best of luck.

Sounds like a Convergence IC problem, the convergence ics would need to be replaced. This can be done by yourself or a professional.

Magic Focus does not work.

Convergence issues usually resolved by changing convergence output amplifier IC's.....Original STK392-110 should be replaced
with upgrade Stk394-160E Hitachi part # CZ 01341,change both
for reliability.....check B+ feed resistors for over-heating....T.
