Look at the compressor for a date code. Some compressor manufacturers have the date code as part of the serial number. First two digits are for the year and followed a letter for the month of manufacture.

"I have a 13 year old 10 SEER Achiever RUUD UPKA-049JAZ heat pump when you turn the AC on the ouside unit makes surging sound about every 3 min after about 45 min the ac will kick on."

sounds like compressor is going bad .. first try a hard start kit.. have staved off replacing compressor many times.. may last a long time may last 1 day

also check charge

Cant change valve core cabnet to close c&d remover does not fit high side ruud rheem condensor

I would pump it down to the compressor then change out the valve instead of going through the whole recovery process and make sure the service ports are closed tight

What type of run capacitor do I need for a Ruud AC model UPNJ-031JAZ (outside unit)

Looks like it should be a 35/3 370VAC. If it is not legible on the old capacitor read the data plate on the fan motor and compressor. These should say "uf" or "mfd" rating. Good Luck!!

My adp coil already failed in my only 2.5 yr. Old Carrier ac unit. I am now looking at an estimated $1500.00 repair. Coil is under warranty so the above cost reflects labor only. Adp serial #7107A07780....

Sorry, I don't have any solution but I'm in the process of replacing my 2 AC systems (4 tons by York). My RUUD dealer has provided RUUD ac and gas furnace with ADP coil and not using RUUD coil. Should I insist on using RUUD coil rather than ADP coil?
Thanks,

My unit is 9 years old Ruud RCGA-60AIGH24B seems

It's possible that there is gas leak causing part of the coil to freeze. The cost will depend where the leak is.
