Morgan,
if cleaning the lens did not cure all of the problem I suggest the following.
Get free program from Microsoft called USBdeView (capitalization just to clarify spelling of the program name).
Run as Administrator (right click on program and select Run as Admin)
Disconnect every USB device except the Wireless Keyboard & Mouse receiver
In USBdeView click on the headings in the program to sort the items by "connection status" which should bring the receiver to the top.
Select everything else but the ROOT HUBS, and right click. On menu click UNINSTALL.
That will get rid of all USB configured devices in your system except the Logitech receiver and root hubs, however the keyboard and mouse will disconnect.
Pull the receiver out, wait 30 seconds and plug back into the same USB port. Your keyboard and mouse should reconnect.
Now it gets a bit annoying. In USBdeView you should see just the root hubs, receiver and mouse (which might just say they are not connected even thought they work).
After you perform this next step you will have to shut down the machine using the POWER buttons, so make sure everything but USBdeView is closed.
Select all the devices including root hubs and uninstall them.
The mouse will not work and removing and replacing the receiver will not work. You must shut down using the power button .
When the system reboots your receiver, mouse, keyboard and root hubs will all be back. Run the system without any other USB device and watch performance. If it all seems good. Add back your other USB devices one at a time, checking performance of mouse and keyboard between installing each device.
and once again, clean the mouse lens with the point of a dry tissue and do it often.
Press the button on the back of the mouse to free the battery cover on top.
Remove the battery cover and put the supplied AA battery into the mouse.
Replace the battery cover.
Insert the wireless USB dongle into a USB port on the laptop or desktop computer.
Move the mouse and watch your computer screen.
Confirm that the mouse is connected by making the cursor move.
Hope this helps
