Question about Dell Latitude C610 Notebook

CURSOR HANGS UP IN CORNER OF SCREEN !

When using the computer the cursor will disappear into a corner of the screen for minutes on end. I can run it out onto screen but it quickly returns to a corner, If I am fast enough I can bring up task manager but the only programs shown to be running are what I am trying to use. If I can get to processes it shows "system idle" to be using 100% of CPU. Sometimes I can reboot and all is well (I can control the cursor) other times I have to just let it run - 30 minutes or more- and whatever is running in the background will finish or I will have to continue to reboot until I can get control again. I am running Windows XP Pro. I bought the laptop used already upgraded to WIN XP so I do not have XP disk. System Restore has never worked. It shows restore points but when I try to back up to a previous date I get an error message saying it was unable to restore. Thank you for any help.

This is a problem with the synaptic touch pad. First, it could just be a driver glitch. To rule this out, uninstall the drivers for it from the device manager, them reboot. The machine will find an reinstall the drivers. If this doesn't work, then check the connector, under the keyboard. Disconnect it, clean the connector, the reconnect it. Sometimes the connections work loose or corrode slightly. If it still doesn't work properly, then I'm afraid it failing and will need to be replaced.

My cursor disappeared on my Samsung 303C12. Is there a way to turn the cursor on and off?

It sounds like you turned off your track pad. On some laptops there is an indentation on the pad to turn on and off and some have buttons on the laptop. Did you go into your track pad properties to see if it is on? You can do this by clicking on the mouse on the lower left corner of your laptop or by going into control panel. I hope this helps.

If it only disappears when you move it left or right off the edge of the screen, your video software may think you have a second monitor. Tell it different.

Computer freezes on start up all I get is the blinking cursor on the upper left corner (looks like the DOS screen) waiting for a command to be entered. I force shutdown pressing and holding the power...

That blinking cursor is the way in which the BIOS is telling you that Windows is missing - its most critical, core files have been corrupted beyond repair. The only thing you can do is to reinstall using the recovery cd or your own Windows install disk.

Black screen with blinking cursor upon start up

You don't say what Windows are you using.
Anyways, it seems like you have a corrupted BOOT problem.
On Windows Vista and Windows 7, you can insert your Windows installation CD, and choose the "Repair my pc" option.
Windows will do it automatically fro you, and you'll be up and running in a couple of minutes.

Dont forget to rate this answer if it helps.
