Question about GE PDW8680NSS Built-in Dishwasher

Top rack automatically slides out upon opening door

We bought our GE PDW8680NSS dishwasher a few months ago after admiring the floor model. For the most part I'm very happy with it, but there is one quirk that is driving me crazy... whenever you open the door to the dishwasher, the top rack automatically slides out several inches. I can't stand it. I want it to stay where it is inside the machine unless I pull it out. The floor model we looked at didn't do that, and if it had I never would have bought the thing. Is there any way I can stop the top rack from automatically sliding out? The bottom rack stays in place like it should. Thanks!

The rack slides out even when empty, so it's not an overloading issue.

It was also professionally installed so I assumed it was balanced correctly, but that could be a bold assumption. How would I know if it was balanced correctly or not?

Hi,

This is actually a feature to allow the user easy access of sliding out the top rack. A look at the parts diagram disclosed that there is no mechanism activating this and therefore could be assumed to be gravity driven. It would stop a few inches due to the action or rather inaction of the rollers which would require user intervention (pull).

The only modification I could think of is to change how the inner rails are attached by inclining it to prevent the sliding out. The idea would be to lean in the upper rack to prevent gravity from sliding it out. Am not sure if inclining the entire dishwasher would affect the overall performance but it is also a possibility.

I have taken the liberty of including the diagram of the upper track should you wish to reference it.

Hope this be of initial help/idea. Pls post back how things turned up or should you need additional information.

Good luck and kind regards.

    Hi again,

On the other hand, leethedeuce might be onto something with the balancing. Wedging a block of "something" on the bottom front (between the washer and the floor) would incline the entire dishwasher.

As this would have more of an effect on the top rack then the bottom. I didn't see anything in the user manual about this at all either.
    Keep me posted.

I have to replace the handle / latch assembly on a GE Monogram Dishwasher Model #ZBD6600G03SS. For the love of me I can't see how to do it. Do I have to get at it from inside, outside, both sides...

Hi

If the dishwasher door will not latch on your GE Monogram dishwasher and it is a new appliance, check that the door is not hitting screws or cabinets underneath the counter. For a new dishwasher, you might also need to push in the top of the control panel as you latch the door. The new gaskets might not have had time to seat properly. It may be necessary to run up to 10 dishwasher cycles for the heat from the washer to seat the gasket, which becomes more flexible after it is used a few times. For older Monogram dishwashers, check the loading rack to be sure no dishes are protruding beyond the back or front of the racks and that no dishes have fallen through to the lower rack. If dishes are dangling down into the lower rack, they could stop the lower rack from completely rolling into the dishwasher and could also stop the spray arm from rotating. Check that no silverware is obstructing the door.

Just installed new dishwasher top rack will not slide in

I had the same problem with my new GE. They installed 2 brand new upper racks.$$ it worked ok for about a month and then I had to force it in again. on the 7th repair call in as many months my repair guy walked in the door stating that he finally knew how to fix the problem. It is caused by poor design in the wheels. they are porous and the detergent breaks them down and they swell. new wheels from an older model fixed the problem. they have RND on the case.

GE dsd 6700 top rack glider wheels not turning,

remove the tray and look at the wheels to be sure they are completely attached to the tray itself. If they are spray them with PAM or another cooking spray product to lubricate them.

Usermanual for old ADMIRAL dishwasher model number BDUR 41400

right. first of all there are usually three settings one is intence 2 is normal and three is pans. or the other way round. cannot remember. but put nothing in and turn it on by closing the door. turning the knob and pressing the start button when selection is made if no button to start it just select a program and see which one lasts the longest thats the pan one. use dishwasher tables either in the little basket hanging in there or in the door there is a slide thing. put tablet in there and fiddle till it stays shut. then close the door. after loading with stuff. at the bottom will be an unscrewable white knob put some dishwasher salts in there every few months. it keeps the water soft. there is also a filter in the bottom you can lift out to clean a round thing within a mesh grid. that must be reg checked for bits of dinner and stuff. try and get the bets off first. dont put beans and things left on plates and pans in cloggs up. try contacting supplyer for instruction manual. if you cannot thats all you need to know really. hope that helps. liz

termostat burn out This dishwasher I have purchased about 2 yrs ago at Lowes, two weeks ago the drying cycle got stuck? I have noticed a funny plastic smell and found it to come from my dishwasker which was super hot almost burned my hand while attempted to open it. All the dishes ,coffee cups etc crackled from heat and the plastick components of the dishwasher itself melted. I have unpluged the dishwasher from the electrical outlet to prevent any other issues and contacted GE. The cutomer service asked me to call the higher more able to service me customer relations office to deal with this situation. The rep that I spoke with offered to send a tech to see what the problem was I agerrd and we set up an appt for fallowing week. After the comp visit from GE tech I was informed that the issue was an electrical burn out and that the new"computer" needs to be ordered as well as all the melted baskets, etc and the low estimate of repair is $450!! I have contacted the claims rep and informed him of the found issues and the cost of repair and asked him what he proposes to fix this issue since it is an electrical issue. He informed me that it is not covered by warranty but if I purchase new parts for it I will have a new warranty for 5 years. Now Im upset cuz this dishwasher is only about 1year 7 months old I bought it new from Lowes and I think the electrical pares should be covered for 5 years (The dishwasher was made in 2008 and is no longer produced) what gives? The rep offered a 50 % discount on parts and labor but should it be all cowered under 5 year limited waranty? please help
