Question about Televison & Video

No picture on my combo tv/dvd

I purchased this TV/DVD combo (Audiovox FPE1906DV when a local electronics store was going out of business about a year ago, so I doubt it has a warranty.

It worked fine up until 2 months ago and then the DVD started making strange noises, then it started not to read some of the DVDs that I inserted, and ultimately the DVD player stopped working all together. I just get a blank blue screen, it says 'no disc, and there is no sound.

Then a couple weeks ago, the picture on the TV stopped working as well, but the odd thing is that I receive audio, just not video. I thought perhaps it was a bad cable connection, so I removed the cable and same thing, no picture.

What can I do to fix this?

What is an IC and can I replace it myself?

  • gino1999 Jun 27, 2008

sorry those are basic solutions that I've tried already.

  • gino1999 Jun 27, 2008

sorry, that last comment about basic solution was for the other person who sent me a solution. I think it probably is the IC, but I don't know how to prove that...perhaps I can take it apart and see something broken?

Dear Sir/Madam,

1. Make sure that the HDTVlp is connected to the correct “antenna in”
input on the set-top box or TV.
2. Rotate the antenna around the room to find the best reflacted signal,
keep in mind that the best reflected signal may be behind the antenna.
( Rotate the antenna base up to 360º until you receive the
best signal possible).
3. For houses with aluminum siding/insulation or stucco, place the antenna
near a window to minimize interference.

If this fails to give you a solid picture, slowly rotate the antenna 360
degrees until you receive a picture - the HDTVlp antenna was designed to
pick up reflected signals from interior walls. Keep in mind that the best
reflected signal may be behind the antenna.

    IC means integrated circuity.

it is a very small chip which can perform complex functions.

they are soldered to a circuit board for performing those functions.

for replacing the ICs u need have a very good knowledge in practical electronics

    thank you

it can be the PIP module or the vertical ICs..

There is a quick test you can do to determine if the problem
is in your PIP module, using two 4.7uf/50v electrolytic capacitors. The
PIP module plugs into two connectors on the main board. Remove the PIP
module, and on connector VP on the main board (the 11 pin connector), use one
cap to jumper from pin 7 to 9 (negative lead on pin 9); and use the other cap
to jumper from pin 5 to 11 (negative lead on pin 11). If the PIP module
is bad, you will now have video. The PIP module has surface mount
capacitors that go bad. Typically all but the three large surface mount
capacitors will read bad or weak with an ESR meter. When you remove the
caps and clean the board, check for eaten traces; especially around the
4.7uf/35v cap at the upper left of the PIP module. Sometimes the
electrolyte leakage will also eat other traces, so be sure to inspect the area
around the micro. I prefer to replace these surface mount caps with miniature
leaded ones as they don't seem to have the leakage problems associated with the
    surface mount caps.

is your unit has a old chassis like 169 then you need not have fear about the fly back voltage since there will be a high voltage splitter.

am not sure of the chassis your unit uses.

    so be careful..

fly back voltage is a very high voltage and can cause instant spot death. so be careful

good luck for getting fixed soon

Hello, we have an Orion DVD/TV combo and have no remote for it. Is there any way to play a DVD without the remote the Play button alone on the unit does not play the DVD from its menu? We live in...

You should be able to do a channel search and come across the inputs either at the upper end or the lower end of the channel search. Using the channels on the TV itself, not cable or satellite, scroll through the channels until the desired input is found. Once on the desired input open the DVD player and insert a DVD and close the drawer. The DVD should start to play automatically. When it gets to the place on the DVD to actually "play movie" press the select/enter button on the remote. As for the replacement remote I would get a universal remote. They are far fairer in price than an original replacement remote and every bit as reliable. Just make sure to take the model of your TV/DVD player with you to make sure the remote you purchase is compatible. You probably need to go no further than your local hardware store or department store. Save on the shipping too. However if you are set on getting the original remote here is a place they also sell a few generic remotes for a few dollars less.

Disney 13" TV/DVD reads because of Regional settings

I have over 10 years experience in electronic tech support.

I know this isn't what you want to hear, but the problem you've described can't be fixed with troubleshooting. Your TV will have to be replaced. There is a part that has developed a defect and needs to be replaced. If you're still in warranty, the TV will be replaced at no charge to you. The warranty would likely be at least 90 days from the date of purchase from the manufacturer. If you purchased an extended service plan they will replace the TV at no charge as well.

If the TV is no longer in warranty, you will not be able to get it repaired because the parts are no longer available. The company that was manufacturing Disney TVs and DVD players went out of business nearly two years ago.

I hope I've provided you useful assistance and that this information allows you to make an informed decision as to how to proceed from here. Please be sure to vote on my response. I hope I've earned a good rating from you today.

Please let me know if I can be of further assistance.

Toshiba MD20FP3 Combo does not turn on. Help!

Not unless you have taken the time to learn all the safety issues concerning the HI voltage safety facts, in the repair of electronics? It sounds like your tv has a problem in the sweep/power supply circuits, and since these sets have NO user serviceable parts< its best too leave these types of repairs to a certified electronic technician. Good Luck
