The drive is 160 GB not 120 GB as stated in the question, sorry.

  • usagent86 Jun 27, 2008

The drive was beeping when copying many GB of data from one external drive to another. I ran chkdsk /f and it found many errors and said it fixed them all. I then ran the maxtor software diagnostics and it gave me this error code and told me to backup all my data and send the drive in for repair. It's out of warranty now. I then bought another mini drive and backup all the data. I then reformatted the maxtor drive with the NTFS and reinstalled all the data, but i still get the error code. I am afraid I may lose data if I continue to use the drive.

  • usagent86 Jun 27, 2008

I just tried to copy 20 GB from one external drive to the maxtor and got a "windows delayed write failure" message in the bottom right of my computer screen and the message said it was unable to write d:/$mft

  • usagent86 Jun 28, 2008

Anyone have any thoughts about how to eliminate the error code A3DAD346 from my maxtor onetouch mini iii 160 GB usb drive?

Dear Sir/madam,

Stop errors are difficult to diagnose since they are so diverse.
A good place to start troubleshooting is the Microsoft Support knowledgebase.
Experiment with the problem by

  • shutting down the computer, removing the external drive, and working for a while with the drive disconnected
  • checking the Windows Event Viewer for entries around the time the STOP error occurred
  • connecting the drive again once the computer is on and has been functioning properly for a while
  • connecting the drive to a different Windows computer to see if the problem follows the external drive.

It seems that your hardware is failing already, Did you try running a check utility software that may fix your concern but if not you may need to have this disk replace...

Good luck.......

    Follow this:

    1.
In Windows Explorer, right-click your hard-disk, and then click Properties.

    2.
    Click the Hardware tab.

    3.
Click the hard disk, and then click Properties.

    4.
    Click the Policies tab.

    5.
Click to clear the Enable write caching on the disk check box, and then click OK two times.

    6.
Repeat steps 3 through 5 for each hard disk that is installed in your computer.

    7.

If the issue is resolved, do not continue with the steps in the "Advanced users section." If the issue is not resolved, continue with the steps in the "Advanced users section."

    Advanced users section

    loadTOCNode(2, 'resolution');
This section is intended for advanced computer users. If you are not comfortable with advanced troubleshooting, you might want to ask someone for help or contact support. For information about how to do this, visit the following Microsoft Web site:

    http://support.microsoft.com/contactus/ http://support.microsoft.com/contactus/)

    1.
Make sure that your UDMA hard disk controller is using an 80-wire, 40-pin cable. For information about how to do this, view the documentation that is included with your computer, or contact your UDMA hard disk controller manufacturer. Test to determine whether the issue is resolved. If the issue is resolved, do not continue with the remaining steps. If the issue is not resolved, go to the next step.

    2.
Warning Do not change the BIOS settings unless you are very familiar with all the effects of changing BIOS settings.

Make sure that the BIOS settings are not configured to force faster UDMA modes. For information about how to do this, view the documentation that is included with your computer, or contact your computer manufacturer. Test to determine whether the issue is resolved.

From Maxtor's website:

My Maxtor OneTouch software or FreeAgent software gives an 8-digit (eight digit) diagnostic error code Unfortunately, an 8-digit code from either the Maxtor OneTouch Manager software or the FreeAgent diagnostic/Test My Drive software signals a drive failure. Please be sure to backup the data contained therein as soon as possible and prepare a return order to request a replacement. Remember also that many retail stores will allow a return directly to the store within 30-90 days of purchase.

Note: FreeAgent Pro drives can give false diagnostic failures when tested using the FreeAgent Tools and connected via the eSATA interface. Please see Seagate KnowledgeBase article 5034 for more information.

The only way to eliminate the code is to replace the drive. Your hard drive has failed and cannot be fixed.

In the event that your OneTouch III does not pass the diagnostics, an
error code will generate that can be used when contacting Maxtor for
    Warranty Replacement Options.

    this was from MAxtor Knowledge BAse;

Sometimes FreeAgent Pro drives will display a FreeAgent Tools diagnostic failure when connected via the eSATA interface.

    ===

By design, FreeAgent drives are not designed to be tested with the
FreeAgent Tools utility when connected via eSATA. If you do try to run
a diagnostic test, it is supposed to give a message stating that the tools are only available when connected via USB.

Due to the many different controllers out there, sometimes the tests
are available. In these cases, if you test the drive while connected
via eSATA, you will get a failure every time.
This does not mean that the drive is failing. Rather, this occurs because the test is not supported when the drive connected via eSATA.

If you are concerned about the health of the drive, please connect
the drive through USB and then run the diagnostic test. If this test
passes then you should consider your drive healthy.

    ...BUT

    Unfortunately, an 8-digit code from
either the Maxtor OneTouch Manager software or the FreeAgent
diagnostic/Test My Drive software signals a drive failure. Please be
sure to backup the data contained therein as soon as possible.

-Unfortunately, $Mft errors usually indicate a corrupted partition.

if you still info/instruction just let us know.. but for now if you already backup all of your files.. it is better to re partitioned the failing drives, and the re format it again..

    Hi,

Well you have been working on this hard drive for a few days now . The best possible solution to your problem is get the harddrive replaced from Segate. They generally have a 3 to 5 year warranty on external harddrives , depending upon the model number..

If you have critical data that you would hate to part with. You can contact the following companies for data recovery from crashed and broken hardrives.
