My laptop also went kaput. It doesn't boot up. All lights are on and you can hear the fan. Nothing happens. I tried everything suggested by them on the website. Doesn't help. Googled. Found that many folks have the same problem happenning at around the same time viz., just after the warranty expired. Called hp customer service was adviced to buy a new one.

I ran into this problem the other day. The problem was the battery on the laptop was too dead to power on the laptop. Plug it in and let it charge overnight, and see if that resolves the issue.

Yes! take it back to the place of purchase, this is a manufacture issue. By the description it is a motherboard problem and should still be under warranty.

My laptop screen suddenly dark, while it returned to normal. What is the reason?

could be a couple of things, UAC or power settings, say you have your power plans set differently for when it's plugged in or on battery (most people do) on battery they have things set to minimal i.e. dim display, where as on plug power they have everything set to maximum. so if it happens when windows loads after you've had it unplugged for a while and plug it back in, windows is just detecting and changing your power plan.

Laptop battery wont charge, wont even turn on to charge.

A common trouble is that the solder joints from the power jack to the motherboard can break. This is due to flexing the power plug over time. When this happens the power can't get onto the board at all to run the computer or charge the battery. Sometimes the connections may still work, so you get the intermittent operation you mentioned.

Usually this can be repaired, but it means disassembling the computer to take out the motherboard and resoldering the connections. In some cases, the motherboard can be damaged by heating and arcing from the bad connections and can't be repeaired, but this is pretty rare. A computer shop might be able to do the repair if they get into that level of service.

Wont turn on

take it back to the place that you bought it. Sounds like you are having a issue with your motherboard.. If you can take it back i highly recommend it. A replacement motherboard could cost a high price depending on what computer you own.

Starting the laptop

Unplug all external devices. Remove the battery and ac adapter. Then try again with just the ac adapter and no battery. If it works, turn it off and put the battery back in. Everything should be fine.

What your daughter did is absolutely harmless, unless your laptop is set-up not to go to standby mode then eventually hibernate when the lid is closed. In that case if it was put into a laptop bag while running it may have overheated. If that's the case it may need a motherboard or CPU, have it checked out.
