seems like this is a banding problem. Nikon has issued a service advisory on some of their
Coolpix models including the 5700. So they will fix this issue free of cost. This is an
issue with the sensor. Please contact the nearest authorized service
This camera was in the time when the ccd had problems. http://www.nikonusa.com/email_images/nikonusa/service_advisory/coolpix.html Call Nikon concerning your camera. You can send it to them, they will estimate it, and may repair it for free if it is the ccd problem.
CoolPix 5700's have a common image sensor failure. Check with Nikon for recalls, this may be the cause of your issue.
Alternatively the shutter may be stuck open, causing too much light to reach the sensor and causing over exposure as well as lines across the image.
Advance Camera Repair
There was a line of defective Sony sensors that went into a lot of cameras between 2004 and 2005. As far as I know the 5700 was the primary victim in the Nikon line but Nikon is offering to repair or replace the affected cameras regardless of warranty status.
