the brushes on the base of the vac don't spin anymore but the brushes on the attachment work just fine. everything else works just fine. i have cleaned the front screen where the spin indicator is and there is nothing obstructing the brushes. thanks.

My problem is the same. The machine works great, but the brushes no longer turn. I've cleaned the screen and checked the spring. Nothing seems out of order, but they will not turn.

I'd LOVE to find a true solution!

I have the same problem with the brush not turning. Has anyone come up with a solution to this problem as of Aug 1, 2008.

As to Joe Blow's solution, doesn't he have enough to do????

have taken sweeper head apart as far as I can but run into sealed unit for brushes. I'm afraid to go any farther because of the water issue. If I break the seal I'm afraid the cleaner won't work at all.

I think i can help. I just had the same problem and had it serviced. Luckily i am good friends with the service man and he showed me exactly everything that needed to be done to remedy the situation.

FIRST: Go out to the garage and get the red can of gas used for the lawn mower.

SECOND: Find a nice open area and place the Hoover vac in the clearing.

NEXT: Douse the SteamVac with a liberal amount of gasoline.

FINALLY: Careful! Now this part is tricky. Light match, and apply to cleaner and watch it melt.

Hope this helps! Have a nice day!

I have the SteamVac Dual and there's a screen on the underside of the unit. It's beneath the brushes and it's red. You have to pull and wiggle it to get it out. With the machine unplugged, lay the unit with the handle on the floor. In the owner's manual ( http://www.hoover.com/pdfs/manuals/F7222900.pdf ) this is shown on page 10 figure 3-2. Clean that screen.
If they still won't spin, then take the brushes out. Again, with the unit on the floor, you simply grab the unit firmly and pull towards you. It's much easier to remove than the screen. I took the brush unit outside and blasted it with the house. You'll have to pull out whatever fur balls are clogging it but eventually you'll see that the brushes spin freely with the water squirting on them. Plug the brush unit back in and - in my case - they started spinning.
