Turn on the console and navigate to the wireless settings screen. On
the Xbox, the menu path is "Settings -> Network Settings ->
Advanced -> Wireless -> Settings" On the Xbox 360, the menu path
is "System -> Network Settings -> Edit Settings."
Set the SSID (network name) on the Xbox to match that of the
wireless router. If your wireless router has enabled SSID broadcast, the
SSID name should appear pre-selected on the Xbox display. Otherwise,
select the "Specify Unlisted Network" option and enter the SSID there.
Specify "Infrastructure" as the Network Mode. (Infrastructure is the
mode used by wireless routers.)
Set the Security Type to match that of the wireless router. If your
router uses WPA encryption and the type of adapter connected to the Xbox
does not support WPA, you will need to change your router settings to
use WEP encryption instead.
Note that the standard Microsoft Xbox 360 Wireless Network Adapter
supports WPA while the standard Microsoft Xbox Wireless Adapter (MN-740)
only supports WEP.
Save your settings and verify the network is functional.
On the Xbox, the Wireless Status screen displays whether a
connection has successfully been made with the wireless router, and the
Connect Status screen displays whether a connection has successfully
been made through the Internet to Xbox Live.
On the Xbox 360, use the "Test Xbox Live Connection" option instead.

Your WPA key is simply put, the password that protects your internet. (Wi-Fi Protected Access). I'm assuming you have a wireless internet and that is how your son is connecting to Xbox Live? (Unless he is mistakenly connecting to another wireless network other than your own.) Someone in your household should know what the WPA key is, because it was the password set to protect your internet. (Most likely done so on a PC or laptop.) So here are my suggestions: 1. Make sure your son is connecting to the right wirless network on his Xbox. You can do this by going to Settings --> System Settings --> Network Settings --> Configure Network --> Clicking A once you get to that Menu, and then scanning for Networks. Chances are you will get a few results. In order to connect to Xbox Live, you have to chose your wireless network. 2. If no one in your household knows the WPA key, I would suggest contacting who ever set up your internet, or another option would be to connect to Xbox Live directly, using the modem cable. (You would have gotten this when you originally bought the Xbox.) This can get pretty complicated however, so I would suggest trying to figure out the WPA key.

It sounds like you are running through a router. The password will be from the router and not xbox live. If you know the password to access the internet from your pc through the router .. it will be the same for your xbox live.
Hi, WPA is Wi-FI Protected Access, this is an encryption used to secure your network, it basically is a key that your router has, your xbox360 will need to know this key for you to be able to access online play via your router.
It may ask for your network name and key make sure you input both of these..
