Question about Kenwood KDC-MP822 CD Player
I just bought a '93 Ford Taurus w/ KDC MP822 and I can't not get it to turn on. When I start car the face opens and then closes but nothing else happens. Help. I have never had a radio like this?
This is a common problem with this model of Kenwood. It is caused by the ribbon cables that connect both displays to the main board.
here are those part numbers:
One of these ribbon cables needs to have the connector jack removed from the old cable and soldered on to the new cable.
It is not the most difficult job in the world, but without prior experience you could end up causing more damage than you started with. This is true with all electronics.
I can not guarantee that this will fix your problem, but in about 95% of these models it does fix them.
If you decide to get it fixed at a service center you can expect the cost to be from $100 to $125, depending on the cost of the part and the labor rates of the service center.
This is a higher end unit from Kenwood and the repair is well worth the cost as long as it doesn't exceed about $180, then it may be at the point when it makes more sense to just buy a new one with the full warranty.
I hope you found this information helpful and if you did a good rating of "FixYa" would really be appreciated.
Let me know if you need anymore help,
