My detector is doing the one churp every 30 seconds which is indication of alarm malfunction. I have had it since Sept 2002. Is there anything I can do to correct this or is it beyone repair? I tried putting new batteries in with no change. when I push button to test it only does the Fire warning . It does not give the carbon Monoxide warning.

Probably time for a new one. Most instructions for these types of units will tell you if it does the chirp after new batteries are installed, the unit has likely become defective. You got your money's worth from the unit. You can get better ones noew likely cheaper than the original one.

I have a KIDDE / NIGHTHAWK Combo Smoke / CO Alarm (Model #KN-COSM-IB). It is "chirping" once every 30 seconds. I understand this is an indication of alarm malfunction. My question is: what do...

Normally, that means the battery(s) need changing.. But, hundreds people have had problems with this combo detector, it's hard to predict what it is.

But, as I said earlier, "Normally that means the battery(s) need changing." The keyword here is "Normally".

Good luck. I hope that solves your problem.

My nighthawk Kidde carbon monoxide detector keeps beeping every 25-30 seconds. Do I need to buy a new one?

Some models of Carbon Monoxide Detectors will give an audible beep every 25-30 seconds after it has sounded an alert alarm. This may have happened when there was noone home to hear it. A periodic beeping sound may also indicate it is time to change the battery.

Solution: Install a new battery and check your manual for instructions on how to reset the system. Check the expiry date on your unit, it needs to be replaced after 5 to 7 years, according to the manufacturer specifications.

If you are in doubt that your Carbon Monoxide Detector is not working effectively, REPLACE IT. Your safety and your peace of mind is worth it.

How to fix detector

You don't mention how old the detector is. If it is more than 5 years old the detector may be beeping to indicate the end of its service life. A smoke detector can last much longer but carbon monoxide detectors have a limited life span. If putting in new batteries doesn't fix the problem then most likely you will need to replace it.

My alarms are chirping every 30 seconds or so. I

Depending on manufacturers and such, the catalyst detector element itself may need to be replaced occasionally. Usually cheaper and faster to just get another detector.
