Unit wont boot/power up

My unit won't power up. I got up one morning try to boot the system up and nothing. I purchased the unit in October of 2004, never had any issues with it, the unit is used mainly for music production; with a keyboard, and an interface unit. I have Pro tools, and Logic installed, with an occassional external drive added.

When you state it wont power up do you not get any lights at all when ya press power button?? If you get the white light when ya press power button???? If you are getting a lite from power button then you may need to just reset the PMU on the system board IF you are not getting a light then you will need to replace the power supply.

It could also be a bad power supply. Mine went out a year after I purchased it, and I found that this was a known issue with some Power Macs. I had to ship it off for repair, but it was recovered under warranty (minus shipping).

Is this a G5 2.7, dual 2.5 with a multicore processor using a liquid cooling system? If so open the case and check to see if any liquid is actually leaking. See xlr8yourmac.com for a whole bunch of postings on the issue.

I have a g4 desktop and I recently purchased the total control from numark. I came home plugged it in using the USB wire and nothing happened. Is there a step I'm missing? Help

I was just looking at a Total Control...

The unit will not do anything until it sees the host application running on your machine which is Trakor LE or Pro.

Install and launch Trakor then see if it works for you.

You may need to plug the unit into another USB port depending on what else you have plugged in.

Newmark Total Control site: http://www.numark.com/totalcontrol

Minimum System Requirements (MAC):
  • Mac OSX 10.4 or higher
  • G4 1.5 GHz or Intel Core Duo 1.6GHz
  • 512MB RAM

Wont boot on its own, wont boot with install disc,

As the hard disk appears to be showing up when you boot up using the install disc, I would suspect that the system is somewhat corrupted. You could reinstall the system again and if you are happy starting from scratch and wiping the hard drive select this option failing that and there is some data on the imac you could install using the preserve user data. A fresh install should sort out any problems. Hope this helps.

The red exclamation mark is lit and display says i need service

It could be that you have reached end of life on the waste pads. The pads will need to be replaced and the unit will need to be reset. Most likely thats what the problem is, you can verify this by going on the status monitor.

If you can find an older SVGA monitor, try hooking it up to the port on the back of your mac. If you get video then chances are the LCD display is shot.

Can't locate the dirve in Target Disk Mode

You are going to need a system install disk for this machine if you want to reinstall it. However, if you just want to run diagnostics, any system install disk for MacOSX should do the trick. You just won't be able to run the installer once you boot from the DVD. The first thing I would do is make sure the eBay seller sold this to you in this condition and without the install disc, because if not, you've got an issue with them.

If you don't have an install disc, your cheapest solution is to call Apple and order a replacement disc for your model computer. You will need your serial number, which you can find on the sticker on your computer. Good luck, and let me know if you need more guidance with this.

Best Buy geek squad might fix Macs. Try booting up the computer with out the hd plugged in. And then plugging it into the computer after it has booted up. I've found that unplugging the power from the computer for an hour or so and plugging it back in can sometimes magically fix some booting problems.
