If it doesn't work when unplugged and fully charged, that problem is not going to go away. You can do the Repair in Philips Device Manager, but it will erase all of your songs and it probably will not work. The problem is, Philips is all out of these players, and they no longer make any 30GB models - 8GB is the max.

What OS are you using? I know that it is not fully compatible in Vista. 1) Try using an XP machine and plug it in there, in any case, reformat the MP3 player using FAT.
2) Try uninstalling all software for your MP3 player from your PC and reinstalling it.
3) Here is something else you might want to try: Try doing a soft reset.
Press and hold the Power On/Off key and the Volume + key for a couple of seconds.
Then switch on the GoGear using the Power On/Off key.
This is soft reset, your songs will not be lost.
4) If all else fails, it's time for a factory reset:
Connect the GoGear to the AC adapter and to your computer.

Device Manager will not recognize the device. Launch the Device Manager
at Start->Programs->Philips Device Manager->Philips Device
Manager on your PC.
Select the REPAIR tab on the dialogue box and then click "Repair" to start repairing.
IMPORTANT: All music & content of your micro jukebox will be erased once the repair function completes.
When repair is complete a dialogue box will pop up; click "OK" and unplug the GoGear from the computer.
Follow all the on-screen instructions to complete the repair.
Device Manager will close automatically once the success message is
displayed. Close all opened applications and then unplug your GoGear.

If your GoGear really is an HDD model, then it is incompatible with both Vista and Windows Media Player 11. If you have Vista, forget about this player. If you have XP, roll back your Windows Media Player to version 10 and try running a Repair in Philips Device Manager - the damage might already be done, but it is worth a shot.
If you have an SA model GoGear, get the latest Philips Device Manager from www.usasupport.philips.com. Make sure you enter your correct model # in the website, or you will damage your player. Run an Update in the updated Philips Device Manager to upgrade the firmware to fix the freezing issue. Philips has a weird quirk that if you want to really upgrade the firmware, you have to also update the Philips Device Manager first or the Device Manager from the CD will give you a false positive: "Your device is already up to date."

Make sure you back up all songs on the GoGear before attempting this solution. 1) Back up all files on the GoGear 2) Open up Philips Device Manager (Start --> All Programs --> Philips) 3) Click on the Repair Tab, and look for a msg that says connect the player while holding the volume + button 4) Disconnect the GoGear from the computer and turn the GoGear off - hold in the volume + button and continue to hold it as you reconnect the GoGear to the computer; after holding the volume + button for up to 20 or 30 seconds, a window will open up saying that your device is being repaired (now you can let go of the volume + button); after the repair is successfully complete, your GoGear will be good as new Now you can do the firmware upgrade that will prevent this problem from occuring in the future. Open up Philips Device Manager and click the Update tab.
