HP Officejet J5780 All-in-One

When I make copies, there is a black line down the middle of each page. What can I do to correct this?

I have the same problem with a vertical black line running through the page if I use the copy feature & was just notified by a customer that our faxes to them have the same black line through every page. However, I do not get the black line at all when faxes come in...weird. I have tried everything suggested & still getting the line. This is a new machine...well, since spring of 2008 anyway, so I don't want to spend more money!

Have you tried cleaning the document feeders Scan Glass? (small glass under doc feeder ~ 1" by 9") Most times there is dirt spot on this glass, causing a shadow on scans and copies.
Try copying from the large glass by lifting doc feeder / platen cover and manually placing original. If no line copying or scanning manually from large glass, then small scan glass is deffenitely the culprit. Hope this helps.

Vertical line from document feeder

there is probably a dirt spot on the scanner glass where the document feeds in. try cleaning the thin glass under the document feed cover.

HP Officejet J5780 All-in-one Injet prints a grey line down the right side of the page when copying using the automatic document feeder. It does not show up when printing; and it does not show up when...

lift the feed area and look at the small glass plate where the auto feed paper is actually scanned. That needs a good cleaning. Since the paper runs across it even a tiny little obstruction such as paper left from a paper jam or a dot of ink from that pen you used to unstick that last paper jam (maybe its just me??). That one dot turns into a line when the paper rolls across it. Clean well and the line will dissappear.

Once try to make a scan and if we are getting line even while scanning. Then perform the steps given in the below webpage.

http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?docname=c01129408&cc=us&lc=en&dlc=en&product=3301296
Directly go to step three and then try to make a copy.

If the issue still persists then power cycle the all-in-one.

  1. Turn the product off.
  2. Unplug the power cord from the product.
  3. Wait 30 seconds, and then reconnect the power cord to the product.
  4. Turn the product on.
  5. Make a color copy by pressing the Start Copy Color button on the control panel.
Now try to make a copy and check for the result. If the issue still persists then reset the all-in-one.

  1. Unplug the power cord from the product.
  2. Press and hold # and 6 while plugging in the power cord.
  3. Make a color copy of any document by pressing the Start Copy Color button on the control panel.
