Broken ice maker in a GE side by side refrigerator

This is a six month old refrigerator. It is still dispensing water, but not making any ice. I have a feeling that something is wrong with the feeler arm. A while ago, there was massive ice build (in the back) up where water was dispensed to make the ice. The weight of this chunk may have damaged the feeler. No water is being dispensed into the the ice making tray.

We have the same issue and it is definitely the feeler arm. The spring is broken. If we move the arm forward manually, the ice maker will make one batch of ice. Then the feeler arm moves back and will not come back forward to make another batch. I am trying to find a way to fix it!

I have the exact same issue, and every time I move the feeler arm forward I get one batch of ice. This has to be a design flaw.

I had the same problem. You will need to loosen the screw for the spring a bit so that you can replace the spring back in the correct place. Thanks for the help!!

Most of the time the spring just pops out of the keeper on the ice maker, If you push the feeler arm back and it does not come back out on its own then the spring has poped off. Look where the feeler arm attaches to the ice maker and there is a round spring between the feeler arm and the icemaker housing. There is one hole in the feeler arm ans one on the ice maker housing that the spring pops into. Its usually the spring is out of the hole on the ice maker housing.

I know this thread is old, but if you have arrived here; GEtech's answer solved it for me, with one caveat: The spring was not broken or out of either hole, it was simply too tight or frozen up. I removed the screw, pulled out the spring, checked the spring for tension, then reassembled the whole thing. After a month with no ice, this did the trick! Thanks!

I have the same problem but when I replave the spring into the hole in the ice maker, the next time the arm moves, it just pops out the spring again. How can I insure the spring stays in the hole?

The water dispenser is not putting out water and ice maker is not making ice. The fridge frequently cycles like it is trying to send out water.

Ice maker does not make ice. water will dispense thru door and I replace the water filter every six months.

I had the same problem. There is air in the line therefore you need to dispense about 3 gallons of water from the dispenser and that should slove the problem. Also, take a clean soft cloth or paper iowel and wipe the ice make sensor (if you have one) and the reciever. There is one on each side of slightly below the ice maker. Should be a flashing or steady red light ....follow the flashing red light to the other side.

Refrigerator is freezing food AND broken ice container part.

Just lower it one number at a time , wait 24 hrs each time you re set it until you reach the right temp. 34-40 deg.

Your filter light has not came on most likely because it has not had the time to. You do not need to replace your filter every six months. This is a safe guesstamate from the manufacture , it depends on water quality and use of water , some filters will go years and years , the filter indicator does not even know if the filter is bad.
When you notice water pressure slowing when dispensing from the door you know the filter needs replaced.
Hope this gets you out of that service fee. This should FIX IT!
If you have any questions let me know.

My water dispenser suddenly has stopped working.

Yes, it could be the water filter. Also check to make sure the water is turned on and that any lines to the refrigerator aren't kinked or crushed somewhere. It's also possible that you will not be making any ice as well if your appliance has an ice maker

In door ice dispenser does not work but the water dispenser does.

check to make sure there is water or ice in your ice maker tray. If none then problem is usually a water supply issue to the ice maker. Behind the frig are the water supply inlet valves. One is for the water dispenser in the door. THe other is for the ice maker. However when one goes bad they both are replaced as one unit. Also Check position of fingers in ice maker. If not in a vertical position then try to reset the ice maker unit and worse comes to worse, replace it with a new one.

Icemaker only dispenses crushed ice even when in cube position. Water/light work fine. Have already replaced control module circuit board.
