Every time you change batteries this will happen to you. First press 2nd then press and hold the down arrow. Hold until their is no black in the background but you can still see the numbers on the screen.
Hello, I do not own this calculator and the manual does not specify the battery model number. However on this site, it is identified as EXP76. There must be many equivalent batteries. The site shows you in pictures the whole procedure for replacing the battery.
Have you attempted darkening the display on the calculator through the function keys? Push "2nd" and then push "up" a few times. After resetting the calculator, this setting will always revert to a lower, unreadable setting. I'm sure TI knows about this, but they probably arent too inclined to fix it.
